My Reading Log #1: Interesting Posts I read this week (2018-09-19)steemCreated with Sketch.

in readinglog •  6 years ago

As people, where I come from, would say, "I'm in a tight corner." A friend said I'm suffering from a self-inflicted writer's block. I'm still trying to come to terms with that. Truth is I have some posts stored up in a notebook which I kept somewhere I can't remember. I hope I find it soon.

Reading can be fun. Image credit: Pixabay: CC0

While I'm not working on any post, I spend time on steemit reading other posts, upvoting cool ones (although this hardly contributes anything), commenting and sometimes resteeming those I don't want to forget in a hurry. I got some inspiration from @effofex on his posts about interesting stuff he reads on steemit. He has encouraged others to join him, so I made a reading log.

Presently, I have no criteria for selecting posts yet but the major bias is towards posts that appear on my feed, #STEM-related posts and posts by Nigerians. I often go through posts with captivating headlines on self-promotion rooms in discord channels I belong to. I also visit the #introduceyourself tag sometimes and welcome those I find outstanding. Last but not least, I love contests!
In as much as reading could be fun, it could also bore you. To avoid that, I'll review my best 3 posts and highlight some honourable mentions for each day of the week. I'll also try to do this twice (Sundays and Wednesdays) every week to maximise the voting window (these guys need to be encouraged).

N.B: The list of articles in this post is not totally comprehensive and if your post isn't here, it isn't because I think your post is not good enough.
The preview images in this post are from the reviewed posts and source information/credits should be found in their respective posts.
These are the posts I found interesting this week. Happy reading!

INTERESTING POSTS I READ RECENTLY

@whatamidoing shares his life experience of how he deals with the frustration of dealing with a typhoon and friends who wouldn't act when you need them to. Sometimes the best way to show maturity is dealing with the problem yourself and not delegating responsibilities even when you're right about it. Yes, that feeling of inner peace!

While I would not advise anyone to root their android device, @ebunoluwaoo teaches us what fun it can be especially if you have problems with memory space. There are ways you can do away with some inbuilt apps though, just go to the application manager and disable those apps! So I don't get to void my warranty by rooting my Samsung. I'm on the brink of downloading Google go! Thanks for the info @ebunoluwaoo.

In this post @gloeze shares tips on how to create wealth by developing a saving habit. This post is very valuable especially with regards to the current economic situation in the country. Her methods requires a great dealof discipline and devotion. The post is an eye opener!

This interesting post by @olamseu tells us how changes in trivial things (like earwax odour) may be signs of an impending and dangerous disease. He connects how earwax odour is connected to diseases such as maple syrup urine disease, black urine disease and even breast cancer!

A motivating poem from @morahn. He wrote about how time is an essential aspect of life. Wasting time could mean you're literally wasting the potential to do some important things with your life. I loved this poem because it plays with words that can't be separated from time itself, using them to drive his message. Very creative!

@air-clinic presents its weekly ward-rounds where it discusses cases studies and gives room for steemians to participate in solving such cases. Its educative for health lovers. They also host a tete-a-tete segment where you get to meet an outstanding member of air-clinic weekly.

Judging by the topic I think @hafiz34 writes a series on health education. This time, he writes on the dangers of NSAIDs use with emphasis on Diclofenac which is a widely used over-the-counter drug. A very insightful post.

@nonzerosum is one of my best writers on steemit. I love the way he combines philosophy and science and he evidently does a good job at it. In this post, he writes about how fear can pull apart a society, "creating an environment where somehow everyone is right, but nobody wins." He narrates how meningitis caused the death of a child and this caused a series of event that affected health policies in the UK and eventually proposes the concept of rational compassion over empathy.

HONOURABLE MENTIONS

Creating this post made me appreciate what @effofex and other curators do. I plan on categorising the posts based on their themes and including more post in subsequent versions of this series. I hope this goes on to inspire others on a healthy ready habit.

Call to Action

I enjoyed compiling this list and you can do it, too. Even if your vote counts for nothing and you have 3 whole followers, start keeping track of what you actually liked reading and let the world know about it. I don't think there's a relevant tag yet, so let's go ahead and use #readinglog. If there is a better tag out there, let me know.
Remember, a community without interactions is just a bunch of people. Comment, vote, promote, even resteem!

Are you in need of a community to help groom your steemit adventure or mentor you into a pro writer? @promo-mentors and #steemschools are a good place to start from. There are also loads of amazing mentors at the @steemstem and @stemng discord channel if you write STEM articles. If you're from Nigeria don't miss @naijapidgin and @stach.
