Somebody talk me out of buying dirt cheap land by the salton sea as my artistic off grid get away!

I just found out I can score hella land right on the Salton Sea. Its been a real sketch spot to live because of a few things. The salton sea is saltier then the ocean and the fish die off in cycles and beach making the place smell of rotting fish. lol I know I know that sucks but some people have finally put together and are going to fund pumping out the water and pumping new water in it to bring the saltiness down lol.

Its location I guess is like an hour and a half from san diego. I'm really considering buying some property down there as a gamble/ mess around vacation property/stop if I ever want to go to San Diego or Los Angeles. My family totally thinks I am crazy but that usually means I am going in the right direction.

Ive been doing alot of research on slab city and the surrounding area and I just get this feeling I need to buy. If they fix the salton sea this place wil be a gold mine. I really believe it. This is a real estate investors wet dream. Dont get me wrong from what Ive read its basically a shit hole right now but still there is potential.

If you don't spend more than you can afford to lose then you can't go wrong. Sounds like if you don't do it you'll regret it, so whats holding you back? Is it FUD (Fear, Uncertainty, Doubt)?

you are right i will. I'm looking at pulling some things together to buy this property now.

Good luck! I hope it works out well for you. Be sure to let us all know how it goes.

A lot of people go to places like Slab City during the winter, it's a lot nicer weather there than up north. I have no idea what it's like there in the summer, but I'm sure it's hot.

ive heard it can go up to 110 plus

That wouldn't surprise me at all.

Very helpful this artical and video

I heard something abut an environmental issue down there..but I cant remember what! I'd do some research first..check all pending environmental and water stuff. "pumping out the water and pumping new water?' I'm dubious..Interesting though :)
