Whose post is late again today?
Yup. But it's Sunday, and I am a Walking Dead Fan. So I am writing this while watching Talking Dead, after both the season finale of TWD and the season opener for Fear the Walking Dead. That is true allegiance and perseverance right there. Anyone who is a diehard fan understands.
On top of that, I couldn't write it earlier, because when family calls, hey, ya gotta go. And b/f's mom called. So, good excuse.
Anyway, today is National Glazed Ham day. I tried to do what I did yesterday, which is feature only Steemians in the post. I would prefer to feature people on this site rather than curate from elsewhere.
Unfortunately, I ran into more of a problem than I did yesterday. I'm usually not one to bitch openly. But, I'm gonna bitch a little.
See, I said nothing about it in the post, but when looking for recipes featuring pecans on the site, I came across more than I featured.
Great recipes. Tantalizing pics. That wasn't the problem. However, in some, it was pretty obvious that it was not original content. I'm sure I missed some original ones, so I'm not calling out every single one that I didn't feature. If I left you out, and you had a real recipe and happen to read this and see you were not in the other post, my apologies, I am not talking about you.
But, for this one, I was surprised to see there were actually enough to make an entire post out of.
Then I looked at them.
Now, I love this site, but there is a lot of crappy spam on here. It seems a lot of people come here and think they can just copy other content word for word or steal other people's images and make a killing.
When I am looking for posts to feature, I am looking for original content. I don't want to perpetuate plagiarism or outright theft. So I do a little research.
I understand that some people don't know any better, and just need a little nudge in the right direction. But some things on this site go well beyond that.
I'm new here, so I know I have no right to judge. At all. I just think that if you are going to be here trying to succeed, at least make an effort.
Taking a picture straight from Food Network and copying the recipe is not what I would call making an effort. One of the users even had the Food Network logo as theirs. Seriously? Obviously, they didn't get very far.
For this post, I considered simply curating the recipes from elsewhere. However, call it irritation or whatever else, I decided just to feature the one recipe from Steemit I found that was actually original. This is why there is only one when I usually have multiple.
It's someone I was already following, too, which I didn't even realize when I found it. I would have followed her anyway, because her recipes look amazing - and anyone who has seen any of my posts knows I like amazing recipes!
So, enough of the soap box. It's time for some ham. I have made my fair share of hams, and my fair share of glazes for them. My personal favorite involves orange juice and Jack Daniels, which is something I created years ago that was a mutation of what my Dad used to do.
In his version, he would place pineapple rings with maraschino cherries in the middle all over the ham, secured with toothpicks. I know a lot of people do that as well, but it makes the ham too sweet for my liking. I'm a salty girl!
Now admittedly, mine might be so good to me because I tend to take a few shots while I am making it. But everyone else seems to like it too, therefore, I'm thinking it's a winner. Next time I make it, I'll post it. Then you can be the judge.
While I have tried many different variations, I have not tried this. The post on mine might be a while - because this is probably the one I will make next.
It looks sooooooo gooooooood! This is a pairing I have not thought of, but it makes perfect sense.

Sweet Thai Chili Glazed Ham Slices by @momskitchen
She lets you know how to make the whole kit and kaboodle that you see here.
I don't know about you, but I love me some down home cookin', so stuff like this gets me every time.
This particular recipe couldn't be any more simple, either, as she uses ham slices and bottled chili sauce. If you want to make it more authentic, I would try this Sweet Thai Chili Sauce from The Spruce.
Whether you make it fresh or use it straight from the bottle, this is a great idea on slices and I am sure it would impart a helluva taste used as a glaze on a baked ham as well.
What do you think? Let me know in the comments, and if you have tried something similar. Or, tell me about your favorite ham glaze!
I feel like I have to end this by saying I've already met so many cool people since I've been on here, and I am so thankful to have found this site. I'm officially addicted. Just had to vent some frustration.
If so, my job is done. 😊

I figure if I am doing curation posts for these daily food holidays, then I might as well showcase other people from here. Especially posts that didn't really get the traffic they deserved.
It doesn't always work out that way, unfortunately, but I'm trying! Even if I can just give back a little, at least it's something right now lol 😏

I'm not much of a cook - but this looks simple enough to make. Have you tried cooking while sipping on a Berliner Weisse?

Doesn't it? I think even my b/f could make it and he doesn't cook at all lol
I can't say that I have had Berliner Weisse, but I looked it up and it definitely sounds unique. I'm going to have to see if they carry it in one of our specialty package stores around here. Thank you for the suggestion - I'm always up for a beer tasting! 🍺
