Sometimes I like to add a bit of variety to my coffee.
This recipe adds a subtle spice to coffee, which is especially warming on a cold winter's day.
Ingredients
- 1 Cardamom pod
- 1 point of a Star anise
- 1 Black peppercorn
- A finger width of a Cinnamon stick
- Your usual ground coffee
Method
Add the cardamom, star anise, peppercorn and cinnamon to a pestle and mortar
Grind the spices so they release their aroma. We are not going for a powder, just broken up.
Add your usual measure of ground coffee to the spices and mix
Now prepare your coffee as normal.
I am using an espresso machine, but there is no reason this won't work with most other brewing methods.
Now enjoy!
Additions
This also works well with a bit of milk and sugar syrup.
The spice flavour is quite subtle, you can double up on the spices if you want the flavour to really come through.
