Recordpool Squad // New Music This Week: Second Week Of March

It's that time of the week where you trust me with your new music selections. As always I don't cover singles only EP's and LP's, they have to be released around the time I write these, and they have to be good af! If you have some new music you want me to consider feel free to comment below or find me on Discord I am usually in the MSP-PAL or Atomcollector Servers. Ok enough with the chatter lets go over some new music.

Christopher Choz1n - fer´gåtn
All my friends do cool shit! It's not really a rule or filter to be my friend. But I will tend to get closer to people who are creating awesome stuff. Christopher Choz1n is one of those close friends. We met while making a music video and have remained close for a very long time. This guy makes super fire beats! He has a history of dominating nearly every beat battle he went to and working with some rap legends. All his beats are meticulously crafted, mostly by hand. They always tend to knock hard no matter how chill they seem. What I really love is how all his records have a consistency to them and an easy to recognize theme. This new record sounds like a matured man thinking about his present and how it will affect his future.

Young Fathers - Cocoa Sugar
Young Fathers release their third full length album and it is really hard to explain. The trio hails from Edinburg Scotland and seems to pull inspiration from everything in the world. If you take pop, hip hop, indie rock, edm, make up a few new genre's and top it with fashion you get Young Fathers in some way. They are immensely talented and Cocoa Sugar is yet another example of this. I think we will be seeing a lot more for this group. I really hope to see them live soon.

Apathy - The Widow's Son
Let's get something straight, I love bad kid music!!! They don't get much badder than Apathy and he lets you know it. I discovered Apathy when I was much younger and have thought he is one of the best rappers since. The thing about Apathy's raps that set him apart is that he has this ability to rhyme every single syllable. Listening to his music is like slowly pouring a can of condensed soup onto the floor. It is thick with content and smacks with it hits. The Widow's Son is yet another example of greatest in catalog of greatness. This record is really well produced, Apathy has a history of rapping on almost anything, even if the quality wasn't great. But this record is he best sounding on a technical level. Some legends bless show up to flex their skills such as Pharaohe Monch, A.G., Ryu and so much more. If you are craving really real boom-bap hip-hop then this is exactly what you were looking for.

Phonte - No News Is Good News
Phonte was always my favorite member of Little Brother due to his diction, cadence, lyrical content, and his voice. Phonte has this approach that makes you feel like he is simply talking to you. One can forget they are even listening to rap because his style is so smooth. No News Is Good News is a journal over beats. Most of the songs are about things every person goes through and how Phonte internalizes his environment. The production is minimal and precise encompassing all ranges of colors and mood's, sometimes switching mid-song. What I really love about this record is that it doesn't sound like a Little Brother extension. It is fresh and new, listeners who have never heard Phonte or Little Brother's history can fall into this release with appreciation.

Soccer Mommy - Clean
Soccer Mommy hasn't been releasing music for very long. But in that short amount of time she has released a lot of music. Sophie Allison doesn't seem to need much to make her music. It is simple and minimal, sounding like it is recorded in a bedroom. Even though this vibe is carried through her sound this doesn't mean it isn't big and powerful. Sophie's voice is angelic, the kind you could listen to all day. Her latest addition to her catalog Clean is her most mature sounding record. If you follow her releases you can hear her growth into Clean's sound. I can't wait to hear what she is doing 5 years from now.

Submotion Picture - Kites
Submotion Picture releases their latest studio LP Kites. I hope you are already aware of this band, if not you are in for a treat. The Leeds, UK based, 7 piece band combines pop, rnb, dubstep, jazz, funk, indie rock and so much more to create a full on experience. Every single member is extremely talented and deeply knowledge in their craft. Watching their love performance can be addictive due to how captivating their sound is. Most of the time I find myself curious about how they will approach a song live because they are all so technical. This is another band I hope tour near me in the near future.
