I became aware of The Propositions one day, when I was buying a heap of afrobeat records from my favourite East London seller. "Do you know The Propositions?", he said. And I was like "No, never heard of them". "You'll love them", he replied handing me a compilation of their singles released by SF based Luv N'Haight in 1992 🎷 🎶 🚀

The Propositions (originally The Prepositions) were a nine-member black band from Detroit, who cut only three singles between 1972 and 1973 for ephemeral Movement label under direction of Milton Harris.

What is amazing though, besides the strong afro influence in their music, is that the bandleader, Clarence Bennett, was only 17 at the time!

The music of The Propositions carried a several inspirations, including renowned names such as Parliament, Funkadelic, Sly & The Family Stone, or The Fabulous Counts (local band from Detroit), but had an undeniable touch of musical genius! It was a real jungle sound 🌴
