My Record Collection Spotlight #9: Worlds by Porter Robinson (LP, 2014)

This one makes me feel old, thinking on how big it was when it came out, and how new I was to the world of electronic music. Nowadays I likely wouldn't be as into it as I was when it came out, considering my tastes and their evolution. But in its' time, this was the album of the year, for me.

Released in 2014, Worlds was a landmark achievement for DJ/Producer wunderkind, Porter Robinson. A shiny, polished, anime-influenced album of the world-building variety; Worlds creates a very tangible space in time and music and invites you to inhabit it. Heavily influenced by the anime series Attack On Titan, the records' lyrical content deals heavily with themes of good vs. evil, ancient curses, loyalty, etc etc.

The production on this record is par excellence and continues to astound me with each repeated listen, even years later. Electro House rhythms paired with lush, atmospheric, heavily layered, and subtle intricacies within the sound design. I'll refrain from reviewing each track, but I'll leave you with my favorite track, "Divinity", as encouragement to dig deeper.
