Recycled project; My very own home made fire starters

in recycling •  8 years ago

Today I made my very on fire starter from items that would normally end up in the trash!

Items used:

  • Old Egg Trays
  • Saw Dust
  • Left over pieces of burnt candles

Firstly I placed the empty egg cartons on the table than took the sawdust and filled it into the cavities.

I then proceeded to melt all the left over candle pieces in a pot outside, then I pored the melted wax over the sawdust in the egg trays and set it aside to cool down completely.

Once they have dried, yo can use them to make a nice fire for a barbecue or in the fire place by breaking of a desired piece and placing it under your wood then lighting it up. I know that they are not much to look at but they do not make the entire place reak of paraffin as the conventional fire starters do, and they cost next to nothing to make.

I tried mine and they worked marvelously!

Great post, will try that out.

hi, great idea, have you tried mixing a little methylated spirits or ethanol in with the sawdust before sealing it with wax?
