Giving away instead of throwing away

in recycling •  7 years ago

We usually tend to throw things away once we don't have any further use for them. But isn't it a much better idea to give things away instead of throwing them away? With this post I would like to show you some items I recently gave away for free to people who were very thankful to get them.

The message of this post is simply to remind people that it sometimes might be a better option to make the effort and upload images of things you want to get rid of to an online platform of your choice and wait a few days.

Throwing things away just increases the amount of garbage we have to deal with but giving them away for free might still help others (of course, only if the things are still in a relatively decent state and not completely broken).

It might be something like:

A lamp

A fluorescent tube for fish tanks

What about you? Is there anything you recently gave away for free because you didn't have any use for it any more? Or do you usually opt for the garbage bin if things turn out to be of no use for you any longer? Do you maybe even hit the flea market from time to time? I would love to read your thoughts.

great post and great advice!

Thank you very much @tonyr. Did you also give something away for free recently?

yes but I must admit that generosity has never been my strongest quality although I am working hard on making it so.:)

Well, giving away those things for free wasn't exactly a generous act in my case as well.

I admit that I wanted to get rid of those items and simply opted for handing them over to others instead of throwing them away. ;-)

I would have taken the lamp, it is exactly what I was looking for as a reading light above my head in bed. But everything was expensive and/or "horizontal" light only.

I have now got a simple old style (LED) bulb one since 2 weeks. It works but the long one would have been better bc of shadows.

Maybe I should put some images on Steemit first next time in case I have things to give away again ;-). I'm still glad though that you managed to find a solution even if it isn't a perfect one.

This is a very good message. I am currently going through my house top to bottom and have amassed a huge pile of items I not longer need and that I haven't used in years. I am going to have a yard sale and price everything low and to go. Any proceeds will be put towards my recent medical bills since my health insurance that I pay $500.00 a month for does not cover much of anything.

Thank you very much for your comment. I never would have thought that I would one day upvote one of your comments but apparently I just did. I think it's a great idea to have a yard sale and declutter your home a bit.

Good luck with your medical bills and stay healthy.
