Red Sox Chief of Baseball Operations Chaim Bloom was fired for a number of reasons, most notably the poor to mediocre performance of the team in the last 2 seasons.

But I'm sure the mistake discussed in the above linked post played a key role!

Jeter Downs (yes, he's named after THAT Jeter) was one of the players the Sox acquired in the infamous Mookie Betts trade. Despite some high hopes, he never amounted to much, and was eventually cut loose by the team.

I warned from early on that the Sox needed to get him to change his name. No one named Jeter could possibly succeed in Boston. I even helpfully suggested some more appropriate names for young Master Downs, such as Ortiz Downs, Ted Williams Downs, and Yaz Downs. Also non-baseball options, such as Russell Downs, Orr Downs, and Brady Downs.

Did Chaim Bloom listen? Clearly not! Now he and Downs are both gone. I would add he also stupidly ignored my advice to have the team wear the admittedly ugly yellow uniforms more often, despite the fact that they are 26-7 in games where they do wear them since they were introduced.

Hopefully, the new Red Sox front office head will pay heed to the helpful advice I have to offer.
