Rand Paul encourages caution towards Iran

I like Ron Paul but there was always something about Rand's look and sound that turned me off towards him. I guess that shouldn't be how you judge a politician but it is kind of hard not to.

He's funny looking and seems frail. Well, at least he's got some good ideas and this one encouraging the President to not be hasty towards Iran would be a good bit of advice to follow which unfortunately had to come via Tweet for anyone to notice.

Now when a Senator says "get the approval of Congress first" it is easy to be judgmental and suggest that he wants his own office to have a bunch of power, which it already does. But it would be nice if presidents in the past had utilized the seeking of permission from Congress before military action - i think the USA would be up to its elbows in far less constant and unwinnable wars if they had done so.

Congress would almost certainly not want to declare war on Iran, especially if Trump simply suggested that he thought it was a good idea - then all the Democrats with an exception of 1 or 2 would vote "no" before they even read what it was that he was talking about.

I truly believe that a war with Iran would be a quick victory for the USA but then what? We end up with another Iraq type situation where we can never leave?

However, if Congress did approve it at least we could make it official and go ahead and get the job done. I don't want to go to war with anyone, but the entire covert ops stuff that is almost certainly going to happen now isn't going to be good either.

I must admit that a lot of my redneck brethren are not as calm about all this I am. Many are blinded by patriotism and even though I think patriotism is a good thing and I have plenty of it myself, I really don't like the idea of USA being responsible for never-ending occupation of the middle-east.

I hope there is a diplomatic solution to this Iran / USA pissing contest before it gets out of hand and requiring Congressional approval of large-scale military ops might be the right place to start. If nothing else it could perhaps give the House something to talk about other than the pointless impeachment for a little while.
