There aren't any rewards for referrals yet. It is something that has been thought about, it may be in development behind the scenes.

    Thanks for the reply. Is Steemit just another twitter with the potential to get paid in cryptocurrency for content ?

    Yes, but unlike those Steem is also a decentralised network. No individual or company has the ability to censor what you see, as long as you choose your own client. Steemit.com is one client, but you can use others, even a local client entirely under your control.
