Growing up with no known nationality or family

in refugees •  7 years ago

Today I was requested to go meet a small boy whom the authorities thought spoke some Swahili. The boy was found wondering along the boarder all alone. I agreed to go meet the boy and I was very happy to do so. For me to meet the boy I had to be accompanied by a lawyer, nurse, a social worker and a government office. All of this of course was for the boy´s safety. When the boy was brought to me I said a few words in Swahili such as jambo and sasa. Unfortunately there was no reaction from the boy. My heart sunk, I was really looking forward to a conversation with the boy. At the end I felt sad since I was of no help to the boy. This has set me wondering how it is to grow up with no known relatives roots. What will become of the boy when he grows up. I guess this is the plight of many of the children refugees all over the world especially when they get separated from their parents.

We really must do all that is possible to make this world a better place for children to grow-up in. We owe it to them and the next generations.
