Reiki is strange. No break, it's weird. The main complaint of Reiki from all parts of the medical world is strange. It can not be measured, no one knows how it works and practitioners go from fantasies to serious scales. And they discuss what it is, both public and private.
Reiki, however, has become a worldwide movement for people of different races, religions, nationalities, classes and environments that share the same: they have seen how this works. They do not know how it works, exactly what it does.
So, what is this?
As a practitioner of Reiki, I have been saying for over ten years that Reiki is a blessing - a system of blessing.
Studies like this show that Reiki therapy is a system of recovery from heart attacks and surgeries, relaxes, relieves stress, reduces anxiety and helps to cope with cancer and its treatment. This improves the quality of life.
All of this is wonderful, but it does not explain what Reiki is.
Google Quick "What is Reiki" contains many articles on Universal Life Energy, Ki, Chi, Chi, Prana and many other names for something that can not be measured, seen, touched or otherwise objectified. In fact, many articles on Reiki seem to show more about those who wrote them and not about Reiki.
There are, however, things that can be objectified: initiation, practice, symbols, commandments and community. Reiki learns through a series of classes that include initiations at each level of Reiki; They practice Reiki in themselves and in others, often every day; use symbols to help them practice them; They follow - or at least try to follow - the five commandments ("Today, just let them go from anger and anxiety, be kind, work, pay gratitude"); Reiki practitioners often meet to share Reiki and talk about it - they form a community.

As mentioned above, studies show that Reiki works, but in such a way that it can only be measured by its effects. Studies have never shown that Reiki harms. The worst that can happen is nothing. Anecdotal evidence indicates that a person in the Reiki waiting room always helps in some way, though not necessarily as he imagined.
To summarize: Reiki is an observable system that can only be measured in its positive effects. Neither the system nor the method makes sense to the uninitiated.
