The Sam Buxton Sunflower Healing Trust

The integration of Reiki therapy in hospitals and clinical settings is evolving. The first step is convincing the hospitals to let volunteers do their healings, and many countries are still in this process, which I call Phase 1. The second step is rewarding those healers with a payment, and to acknowledge them as part of the clinical staff, this would be Phase 2; and the United Kingdom is showing great results, mainly because several charitable Trusts are working hard in order to integrate Reiki and complementary therapies.

From all the Trusts in the United Kingdom, there is one that clearly stands out: The Sam Buxton Sunflower Healing Trust. The founder of the Trust, Angie Buxton-King, was one of the first energy healers to be paid by the NHS, back in the year 1999. Seven years later, in memory of her son Sam, she founded what is now the Sam Buxton Sunflower Healing Trust.

The principal aim of this charity is to support cancer patients and their families by providing Reiki as a Complementary Therapy. The funds they are granted help to employ the therapist in the National Health Service and Hospices. Since then, this organization keeps integrating energy healing into cancer centres and hospices.

And they’re not joking, this charitable Trust has achieved to place Reiki healers in a very long list of hospitals. This is thanks to the good-hearted people’s donations, and also to the hard work done by the Trust’s team.

HEALING IN HOSPITALS LEARNING COURSE

What I think that really makes a difference from other organizations, is their Healing in Hospitals Learning Course. Which has two modalities: face-to-face and distant learning course. This course helps and guides the energy healers so they know how to act and develop inside the hospitals, and according to different types of patients. Among other subjects, this course teaches how to assist medical procedures, how to understand the patient pathway and how to support the patient’s journey. The objective is that the healer knows which type of approach to follow depending on the clinical setting, and how to better adapt to it. This knowledge is a clear step up in Energy Medicine integration. This is not just being able to do Reiki therapy inside the hospital, but really integrating among clinical staff, so the healer can get data and updates on the patients, and very importantly: a payment.
