How Not To Get What You Want

in relationships •  6 years ago  (edited)

I watched an interview with Jordan B. Peterson on the Aubrey Marcus Youtube channel. At 23:05 Peterson said something that struck me. How do you treat people when they are happy to see you?

How often do you allow your bad day to effect how you are treating those who are treating you how you would want to be treated? We are constantly training others how to deal with us. If we dole out punishment when it isn't deserved, what are we teaching them?

We are all guilty of this. We need to be conscious of it. I don't know about you but I want to be happy. I want relationships that I enjoy. I want to be treated well.

While this is self evident when you think about it, I had never considered it before I heard Peterson say it. Now that I know it, I need to act on it.

If this is the kind of life you want, then maybe you can start to being conscious of these interactions too. We have to quit the self sabotage.

He really nails things down, doesn't he?
The part right after that, snapping at someone when they are happy - how easy to do and how wrong, wrong, wrong!
