"Behold, I will lay in Zion a corner stone, chosen and precious: and he that believeth on him shall in no wise be ashamed." 1 Peter 2.6
Through the simplest representations, of very concrete illustrations as a stone, the Holy Spirit reveals to us the glory of Jesus Christ. He is most precious to God. What unspeakably tender relationship exists between the Father and the Son! We can imagine a little of this tenderness when we read Jesus' many pronouncements about His Father, especially where He cries out in great distress: "Abba, Father." Or, conversely, when the Father Himself could not stop, and cried out of heaven, "This is my beloved Son." Thinking about this, we wonder more and worship the Lord because of this powerful Word: "... God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son ..."
Jesus is the chosen cornerstone of the Church; the foundation of salvation determined by the Father. No one can lay another foundation. Because He is God's chosen cornerstone, we can glimpse a little of what it means to be chosen and elected by God, for all those who approach the Lord are elected in Christ: "... as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world..."
