A GREAT DEAL: FORGIVENESS
According to Alexander Pope: "to err is human to forgive is divine." this simply means that for a man to forgive another, it has to be caused by a Divine Intervention.
there is so much hatred and bitterness and Unforgiveness around the world today that one may be tempted to say that there is no love in the world. there is no place that the concept of forgiveness cannot exercised: families, workplaces, schools, hospital, churches etc.
husbands offend their wives , and after apologies the man still gets the cold shoulder from the wife , she refuses to forgive. brothers offend one another and there is a deep rooted hatred amongst themselves, forgiveness still absent. the list goes on.
The story of a young woman comes to mind when it comes to a real life example of the word forgiveness. Corrie Ten Boom, arrested by the Nazis along side her family members for the sole reason. that they harbored Jews in their home during the Holocaust.
she was imprisoned and sent to a camp with her sister and no sooner had they arrived that her sister died. Corrie was released and inspired by her sister's selflessness, she established a postwar home for other camp survivors.
during one of her visit to a church in Germany, she shared the sad tale of her sister's death. when she left the dais, a man walked up to her and said "I heard u call the name Ravens bruck in your speech, I was a guard there." Ravens bruck was where Corrie and her sister were held until she died. this young man said "I have become a Christian and I am sure that God has forgiven me but would u please forgive me for the wrong I did there as a guard?". Corrie froze, she though to herself "my sister died there" and suddenly coldness gripped her and she faced the greatest battle in her life yet. after much pondering, she finally understood what had to be done.
forgiveness was not an emotion, it was an act of will and she was willing to exercise fully her Christian duties. she prayed in a muffled voice "Jesus please help me" and she struggled to stretch her hand out to the man. and just then, she felt a force like the jolt of energy leaving her into the man and a calming warmth. there was peace in her mind and heart and she said "my brother, I forgive u"). the guard the prisoner hugging?! it was God's love ,nothing more.
In the book of EPHESIANS 4, Paul stated: "
be kind to one another, forgiving each other just as God in Christ has forgiven u"
forgiveness is indeed a great deal, we must make profit from it.
I think Forgiveness is a Requirement from God..
Like he said.. As we forgive those who trespasses against us, he would also do same..

"Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself" - when we come to understand this by heart, I think it would be easier to forgive. It's so easy to feel pained by those who have wronged us but do we feel pained when we have done wrong to others? Are we even aware of it ourselves?
