Are people generally GOOD or BAD?

in religion •  8 years ago  (edited)

So I had a conversation with a friend today about whether people are generally GOOD or BAD. We have different faith backgrounds, so we tend to look at a topic from differing perspectives. I am totally cool with it! Hope you are too.

I think this is an important question, because it seems that your response will have a huge impact on how you live your life (your worldview).

I see three possible responses:

  1. People are generally GOOD.
  2. People are generally BAD.
  3. I don't care. It doesn't matter.

The "people are generally GOOD" crowd are either:

  1. God-worshipers who believe that God is pleased with good works and rewards people whose good works outweighs bad deeds.
  2. Karma-counters who believe that good deeds are repaid with good deeds.
  3. Atheist who seek the general good of other people.

The "people are generally BAD" crowd seems to only have one position:
Because people are bad, then God needs to step in and fix the problem of sin (the badness).

I think that the rest of people typically do not care or don't believe the questions is important because of one of the following:

  1. They do not believe in God.
  2. They doubt the goodness of God.
  3. They feel to overwhelmed by the burdens of life to worry about "afterlife."
  4. They believe that what we perceive as being a physical world is only processes occurring in our brain. Basically, good and bad are not real, because nothing is real.

What do you think?

Then a certain ruler asked Him, “Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” “Why do you call Me good? Jesus replied. “No one is good except God alone.

Hi, it's easy.
They are as good or as bad as they've been raised.

Example:
Child soldiers = bad
Madonna (pop singer) = good

It varies from people to people, but I think we are born neutral
