Doctrinal Drift

in religion •  7 years ago

Hebrews 2:1

1 Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed
to the things which we have heard, lest at any time
we should let them slip.

As a theory, continental drift was first suggested in 1596—the idea that today’s continents were originally together, gradually drifting apart. That idea is now discussed under the theory of plate tectonics—the motion of the world’s seven or eight major (and other minor) tectonic plates. The movement of those plates is the major cause of earthquakes as we know them today.

Have you ever seen one of earth’s tectonic plates move? Probably not, unless you have seen the action of a major earthquake. Plates drift imperceptibly, but the effects of such drifts are all too real. The same is true of “doctrinal drift,” warned about by the writer of the letter to the Hebrews. He warned his readers about drifting away from the truth by not giving “earnest heed” to doctrine. Such drifts happen slowly, but their effects are eventually seen: lukewarm affections, apathy, disinterest in worship, changes in values and priorities, and a loss of love. How to prevent doctrinal drift? Bible study, fellowship, prayer, worship, and “earnest heed” to matters of the faith. Send the roots of your faith deeply into Christ to avoid drifting from Him.

Proverbs 3:19-23

19 The Lord by wisdom hath founded the earth; by
understanding hath he established the heavens.
20 By his knowledge the depths are broken up, and the
clouds drop down the dew.
21 My son, let not them depart from thine eyes: keep
sound wisdom and discretion:
22 So shall they be life unto thy soul, and grace to
thy neck.
23 Then shalt thou walk in thy way safely, and thy
foot shall not stumble.

Faith cannot stand, unless it is founded on the
promises of God. ~ John Calvin

El hombre siempre debe cuidar su amor hacia a Dios y sus principios llenandose cada dia de su espiritu.

a doctrine is made by only doing things out of self-conviction everything becomes routine.

Yes you are right. People do not like listening to bad reviews about themselves. Therefore, people must believe in God.

People always want support to move forward, be happy. And God always helps the kind and merciful people.

The gospel is not about doctrine but about persecution, in the search for God.

very good very good! I liked this message dear Brother. Greetings and blessings

Earthquake is very scary. People can die. We need to ask God to help people.

Excellent comparison of the movement of the plates and the biblical drift

Once it was Atlantis. This is a legendary country, which is sung by God Plato. Now there is no Atlantis. With strong earthquake, the layers converged. Therefore, we need to ask God for help.

Great style of writing and nice signature GIF

When you talk about Doctrinal drift: that is moving away from the truth, If any man knows the truth and turn away like Hebrew 3:1 said fix your thoughts on Jesus and the apostle for he was faithful to the one who appointed him. So if we are faithful we will never drift backward from the truth. Thanks to @deathlyhorror for sharing this.
God bless.
@everyone you are free to visit my blog I post about Christianity as well thanks.

Beautiful spiritual content. Thanks for continues sharing religious content. I appreciate your great work.

This is so true.

1 Cor 10:12 NIV says These things happened to them as examples and were written down as warnings for us, on whom the culmination of the ages has come. So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don’t fall!

Thanks a lot @deathlyhorror for always enlightening us.

As Christians we are to stand firm in faith and hold on to the truth. It is essential that we meditate on Scripture.

What does the Bible say?
First Corinthians 15:58 “Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.”

Great message. It's a sad thing to notice how doctrine has been relegated to the bottom of things done in church. There's no strong teachings in most fellowships. Most of the time is spent on entertainment to make people to feel good and at home. Doctrine is now seen as something that divides. But if it divides, then let it be for we are charged to hold fast to it in its soundness. We must study the word and love doctrine. The truth matters and it's the foundation of our faith.

Thank you @deathlyhorror for this post.

The earnest hid to matters of faith is all we need to build our faith to the most holy faith as Jude 1:20 put it. Without your faith it is impossible to achieve anything.

@stevenmosoes

It is because of the false teachers and the false doctrine that is preached without scruples today, we need as the word says preach the new gospel and expose these false teachers who only do it for dishonest profits

We must be strengthened in our Lord so that we never turn off.

Thank you for sharing these words of Faith that encourage us to continue in the ways of our Lord Jesus Christ. Receive a fraternal hug @deathlyhorror

2 Timothy 4:4: And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

(KJV) Paul uses the word fables (μύθους), or myths, to describe the remedy that people seek in order to scratch their itching ears.

Dear @deathlyhorror,

There was only one land mass until Noah's Flood. Continental drift is the result of the cataclysmic events that occurred at that time.

In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, on the seventeenth day of the second month—on that day all the springs of the great deep burst forth, and the floodgates of the heavens were opened. And rain fell on the earth forty days and forty nights. Genesis 7:11-12

The fountains may have been underwater volcanoes or materials from deep inside spewing out into the ocean basins.

Evidently there were great subterranean chambers of water which belched forth their contents causing volcanism (volcanic eruption) and tectonism (faulting or folding or other deformation of the earth’s crust by plate movements) on a broad scale. After being emptied some collapsed to become deep sedimentary basins which uplifted later in the Flood to form mountain chains.

Today when a volcano erupts under water, or if there is an underwater earthquake or mud slide, it causes a tsunami or tidal wave; a dynamic energy wave which pushes water toward the continents, devastating coastal areas. At the start of the Flood all the fountains of the great deep were rent open sending repeated pulses of water toward the continents from every direction bringing sediments and marine fossils to the land. Cyclic ocean currents and tidal actions would have left their imprint on these sediments.

Along the mid-ocean ridges once molten rock and other super hot fluids would have encountered the relatively cold ocean waters, evaporating huge volumes of sea water, ultimately yielding intense rainfall and precipitating their dissolved solids.

Torrential rain poured down. This was a special rain for forty days and forty nights but it continued for a hundred and fifty days, through the first half of the Flood. This continually replenished source of water would have bombarded the earth, eroding and redepositing sediments on a global scale.

Shalom, Steven @lastdays

This is a really pressing issue that should be brought to light. Doctrinal drift is really a bug that should washed out the modern churches today. Many current practices and religious actions do not actually the first doctrines laid by christ and the first apostles. Little changes throughout time coming has resulted in very big deviations from original doctrines. This driftings has led to a weak and unsteady christian community. We have to wake up and correct these negative driftings away from the truth and right principles. It starts with individual study and practice of the correct laid dictrines in the bible. If every one practices the right doctrines personally, then we are sure to grow the right qualities like stronger, more prayerful and others needed to be better christians.....

@deathlyhorror I quite agree with this! because we are made by what we hear and see, this form our basic knowledge of what we give ourselves to learn. Whatever is being learnt should be committed to heart, least it slips away ASAP. the Bible instructs us Not to be hearers only but doers also, which implies that doers are those u don't allow the word slip away

Gracias por tu aporte espiritual

Interestingly, preventing doctrinal drift leads us to focus on the study of the word, prayer, worship and serious attention to matters of faith. All this is key to a great spiritual revival and not be easy to be moved in the true doctrine of the gospel. Blessings

If we hold on to the hand of God, reading and practicing his teachings and commandments, we will never be adrift.
Thank you for always post, that make us meditate on our faith.
Blessings.
