Astounding Bible Verses Many "Believers" Don't Even Believe...and Dont' Want to Believe

in religion •  8 years ago

There are a LOT of people in the U.S. who claim to believe EVERY word written in the book called the "bible." But when it comes right down to it, do they really believe....let's see!

Generally speaking, it appears when social media users touch on the subject of religion, faith and alleged Holy Books, people get all bent outta shape, like PRONTO! Many times, great offense is taken when questions arise from the religious texts people claim to be so fond of. So to be CLEAR, this article/video is NOT intended to condemn nor condone what the Bible is or what it teaches. My own personal opinions on this subject (which are not stated in this video/article) are absolutely irrelevant and my ONLY goal here is to expose people to the unfamiliar Biblical content that’s actually found in what’s come to be known as “the Good Book.” I think you’ll see that, while the Bible itself may be hailed as the “Most Popular Book of All Time,” many of what some call, “unsavory teachings” confined within its pages are not so popular…especially not among many who call themselves believers.

Is cognitive dissonance at work here? You be the judge.

No doubt many will find the Bible’s own statements shocking and unbelievable. So please, before you leave me an irate comment or a “thumbs down,” consider that the content of this video comes straight out of the pages of what is known as “the Holy Bible.” And I didn’t write it, nor am I attempting here to interpret it.

The strange irony is that the most popular Book in the world, claimed to be loved by millions throughout the world, contains information many choose to reject or explain away in one way or the other instead of taking an “it says what it says and means what it says” approach, as they do other, more, as some say, “palatable Scriptures.”

Here are a couple points for your consideration:
1.) Let’s start out with the fact that the Bible itself records that God HATES people. Sure, we’ve heard many times (and have seen the billboards) that He’s benevolent and loving, so loving in fact, that the New Testament records that He sacrificed His ONLY Son so that people could have eternal life. But the Bible also records in no uncertain terms, that “God is angry with the wicked everyday” (Ps. 7:11), (the “wicked” by the way are identified by Romans chapter 3 as everybody on the entire planet) ““There is none righteous, no, not one;
11 There is none who understands;
There is none who seeks after God.
12 They have all turned aside;
They have together become unprofitable;
There is none who does good, no, not one.”

Continuing with God’s hatred of mankind, Psalms says God “hates all workers of iniquity (Ps. 5:5) and that “the wicked and those who love violence His soul HATES.” (Ps. 11:5). Hosea records that God says he HATED Israel “because of their evil deeds, and will love them no more” (Hosea 9:15) The Almighty goes on to say through the Apostle Paul that he hated a guy named Esau before he was even born! (Rom 9) “ And not only this, but when Rebecca also had conceived by one man, even by our father Isaac 11 (for the children not yet being born, nor having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works but of Him who calls), 12 it was said to her, “The older shall serve the younger.”[d] 13 As it is written, “Jacob I have loved, but Esau I have hated.” I'm sure that made Esau feel real good when he was old enough to understand what that meant. Makes you wanna go right out there and do good, huh?

2.) Of all the characters in the Bible who killed others within its pages, no one racks up a greater body count within the context of Scripture than God Himself. From drowning the entire global population (except 8 people) during the flood, to frying EVERY inhabitant of the two cities of Sodom and Gomorrah; from slaying all the first born of Egypt, to killing 23,000 Israelites for complaining (just to name a few); the bible itself testifies that God holds the record as the one responsible for snuffing out the most human lives. Men, women, children, it doesn’t matter; the biblical testimony is that “Lord kills and makes alive” (1 Sam 2:6) and he Himself takes the responsibility for the death of everyone who has ever died, since he alone (according to the Bible) holds the key to life and death. Romans 11:36 clearly states “from Him to Him and through Him are ALL things.” That would include death. Christ says “I am He who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore. And I have the keys of Hades and of Death.” (Rev. 1:18) Bottom line is this: since he “holds your breath in His hand and owns all your ways,” (Dan 5:23), the biblical teaching is that no one can die unless God has decreed it.

3.) God Himself created evil. The Bible records that God is Good, so good in fact that he cannot look upon evil. So where did evil come from? Well, God personally takes credit for it by saying it comes from Him. After all, he is the one who placed the tree of the knowledge of good and evil in the midst of the Garden of Eden (Gen 2:9) And He Himself says that he created evil. (Is. 45:7) “I am the LORD, and there is none else. I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things.”

4.) The Bible flat-out says that Jesus broke the Sabbath. This is a very big deal in the Old Testament. So much so that its listed as one of the Ten Commandments. It was to be “a sabbath of solemn rest…a statute forever” (Lev16:31) Exodus warns: “You shall keep the Sabbath, therefore, for it is holy to you. Everyone who profanes it shall surely be put to death; for whoever does any work on it, that person shall be cut off from among his people.” (ex. 31:14)

What most people don’t know, or refuse to admit is that Scriptures teach that Jesus Christ Himself “broke the Sabbath.” He circumvented the command of Exodus 31:14. The Narrator of the NT (said to be the Holy Spirit) admits “Therefore the Jews sought all the more to kill Him (Jesus), because He not only broke the Sabbath, but also said that God was His Father, making Himself equal with God"(Jn 5:18).

Remember, it is the gospel narrative that makes this statement. Not a Pharisee or some other enemy of Christ. The NT admits that Jesus did the very thing the OT warns people not to do and prescribes the death penalty for those who transgress that command.

5.) What is the Bible’s view of women in the context of the NT church and the OT Law? It speaks for itself: “Let your women keep silent in the churches, for they are not permitted to speak; but they are to be submissive, as the law also says. 35 And if they want to learn something, let them ask their own husbands at home; for it is shameful for women to speak in church.” (1Cor. 14:34-35) “And I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man, but to be in silence.” (1Tim. 2:12-13)

So, if you have a church that has women speaking, you are looking at a church that disobeys the very scriptures they say they believe.

6.) God caused those who were disobedient to Him to cannibalize family members and friends: He promises those in Jerusalem who forsake Him, that he “will cause them to eat the flesh of their sons and the flesh of their daughters, and everyone shall eat the flesh of his friend.” (Jer. 19:9) God says He would be the one causing them to do this.

7.) Its recorded in the Bible that parents are to have a disobedient son stoned to death: “If a man has a stubborn and rebellious son who will not obey the voice of his father or the voice of his mother, and who, when they have chastened him, will not heed them, 19 then his father and his mother shall take hold of him and bring him out to the elders of his city, to the gate of his city. 20 And they shall say to the elders of his city, ‘This son of ours is stubborn and rebellious; he will not obey our voice; he is a glutton and a drunkard.’ 21 Then all the men of his city shall stone him to death with stones; so you shall put away the evil from among you”

8.) God keeps people from salvation. While the Bible says God “desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth,” (1Tim. 2:4), the bible also reveals that he blinds eyes and hardens hearts so they can’t turn from their sins and be healed. “But although He had done so many signs before them, they did not believe in Him, Therefore they could not believe, because Isaiah said again:
40 “He has blinded their eyes and hardened their hearts,
Lest they should see with their eyes,
Lest they should understand with their hearts and turn,
So that I should heal them.”

Jesus admits that if he performed miracles in certain cities they would have repented and turned to God so they could be saved. “Then He began to rebuke the cities in which most of His mighty works had been done, because they did not repent: 21 “Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works which were done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes” (Matt 11:20-21). Though he could have performed them and saved a lot of people, he chose not to.
While the Bible is clear that Christ is the “Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world,”(John 1:29) its equally clear that “many are called, but few are chosen” (Matt 22:14) and “no one can come to be unless the Father who sent me draws him.” (Jn 6:44) (Literally drags him.) If you aren’t drawn by God, you don’t go to heaven.
And to this Isaiah asks, “O Lord, why have You made us stray from Your ways, And hardened our heart from Your fear?” (Is. 63:17) God making someone stray from His ways is tantamount to causing them to be lost forever.
9.) Going hand in hand with number 8, the Bible teaches that God predestined or predetermined where people would spend eternity before time began. 2Tim. 1:9 states that God “has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began” And God doesn’t mince words here, ““I will have mercy on whomever I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whomever I will have compassion.”[f] 16 So then it is not of him who wills, nor of him who runs, but of God who shows mercy. 17 For the Scripture says to the Pharaoh, “For this very purpose I have raised you up, that I may show My power in you, and that My name may be declared in all the earth.”[g] 18 Therefore He has mercy on whom He wills, and whom He wills He hardens.” (Rom. 9:15-18)

10.) The bible teaches flat out that if you don’t hate your family, you can’t be a disciple of Jesus. “If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be My disciple.” (Luke 14:26) Some may argue that “hate” here just means to love less than God. Hate or Miseo in greek is used 42 times in the New Testament and means exclusively to detest or despise. Its the opposite of love, not a degree of love. And to keep a balance, the bible also teaches that you should love the same people he says you should hate. Clear? Good!

The Bible says what it says and, whether you agree with what is written or not, I'd like to hear your thoughts in the comments section below.

These are fairly common 'gotchas' used by atheists. It always makes me ask whether they're consistent in other aspects of their lives. It appears you're an anarchist, so you're a step ahead of most other atheists in your consistency.

My response to these criticisms is that you're missing the forest for the trees. There is a lot of context to these positions. I don't think it would be valuable to debate each and every point, but the easiest one I think to see would be the claim to stone a disobedient child. Thats really not much different than what the government does by locking away people in prison for victimless crimes. Surely you wouldn't think a parent is obligated to care for a lazy and alcoholic child for their entire lives? Stoning might not be what you would think appropriate, but hopefully you can see the need for some sort of separation/banishment.

There's a good book I have read along these lines called Adam & Evil, by The Heyeokah Guru.
Yeah the Bible, like all revealed religions and ideas, usually put forward by some 'great man' go then on to fku up one and all down the generations!

People were to not question the 'Word of God' and if you did you would get tortured and burned alive at the stake.

Alan Watts called the Christians version of dualism 'ultimate dualism' ,meaning that their future belief was the 'evil' as represented by their creation the 'Devil' would be locked up

basically what we have with the 'God' of the Bible is a character projected into the sky of the warrior mindset who envisaged him with -surprise surprise-exactly the patriarchal, misogynist, homophobic, warmongering, and ecocidal thinking of the male myth-makers.
The worrying thing is the hog wash people will believe. A great example of this is the more modern beliefs of the Church of Scientology. EVEN though it is well-known that its founder Ron L Hubbard was a Science Fiction and Fantasy author, yet still people will sacrifice their selves and their families into this crazed cult, even signing billion year contracts FFS!

So why?

This is for other explorations but suffice to say for now, it all comes down to initial divide and control done to people both externally and internally, so much so they become SO unstable the toxic myth-makers can spin any old sht to hook them to their authority

Thank you for your well-thought-out reply. I appreciate your take on it.
