"Religiosity" is not the same as "spirituality"

Religion is one of the worst thing that has ever happened to mankind. It has caused wars that could have been avoided. It has broken homes that could have been mended. It has destroyed lives that could have been saved. It has moulded bad habits and characters into people who should have lived a very good life.

Don't get me wrong now for airing my opinion. I am just a church boy who has seen a lot and hope to correct some of the wrongs with my writings.

I've seen a perfect preacher in church who is a beast at home. His wife can't come close to him and his kids dreads his presence. I've seen marriage counselors who are fornicators. I've seen elders who are drunkards. And I've seen sweet singing choir sister who sells her body to men. I've also seen people like you and me who are religious but have the worst lifestyle you can think of.

Where does the problem comes from.

We live in a society that demands too much from us and we usually can't meet up with their demand so we usually cover up our inadequacies by pretending.

I've once attended a church and everyone in the church was quiet, sober and watchful. The serenity in that atmosphere was one that you don't usually come across. Everyone was well behaved and they all treated each other with respect. It was something to be envied. But the problem was, the same people I see in church who looked "holy" are the same people I see in town that their lives are nothing to write home about. I mean, they are the chief gossips. They are there where ever there is a fight; In fact, they usually start it. They are the ones who still keep malice. They are the ones who have vowed never to see you succeed. Yet, they are the ones you will see with big Bible going to midweek services. They are always on time on Sunday services. They don't miss paying their tithes and they danced a lot when it's time to give their offering.

Matthew 23:2 Saying, The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat: 23:3 All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not. 23:4 For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers. 23:5 But all their works they do for to be seen of men: they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments, 23:6 And love the uppermost rooms at feasts, and the chief seats in the synagogues, 23:7 And greetings in the markets, and to be called of men, Rabbi, Rabbi.

This is the same life I see so many people living. They want to be seen by men and appreciated by everyone. This is what Jesus have to say about them.

Matthew 15:8 This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.

Being religious profits you nothing. It doesn't make you special but makes you to be among one of the several people causing problems in this world. Being religious is nothing but a fruitless activity. It is like fetching water into a basket.

Spiritually is the only solution. Spirituality is not closing your eyes or when you enter into another realm where supernatural things happen. Spirituality is a lifestyle you can live easily. Spirituality is simple and cost less than the pretentious religious acts. Spirituality makes you live your life the way God wants you to live either people are there or not. Either people appreciates you or not. Either you are rewarded for your services or not. It is simply living the life of Christ.
