7 Crazy Lies Christians Tell Themselves

in religion •  7 years ago

I grew up in the church. I was baptized as a baby. I have read the entire Bible from beginning to end. I went to Sunday school, Bible study, small groups and the list goes on and on. All those years of church going, there was always the sense of cognitive dissonance within me for different issues that came up. Usually, we lie to ourselves to mask some guilt related to a sin we think we are committing, but at the end of the day it's still a lie. So, there's more guilt and conflicted feelings about the need to lie to ourselves as well. Then there's the whole "create in me a clean heart...blah blah blah..." Anyway, but I digress....

Here are the lies.

1. Yes, I'm fasting, and no, I don't care if I lose any weight.

2. I'm not judging you. I just don't want your sin to rub off on me and the people I love.

3. All religions are the same. Just be a good person so you don't go to hell. (Hashtag #teamJesus)

4. It's not about the money, but I just know that God has something greater for me. (Hashtag #blessedAndHighlyFavored)

5. I forgive you. I just don't want to (insert simple nice gesture). Oh, and you're going to hell.

6. I'm a good person.

7. I love you...wait, love keeps no record of wrongs? Patient, kind...nah, that don't sound right.

That's all just nasty. You've read the Bible. You just refuse to believe. I doubt that you have any legitimate reasons to not believe. Your eternal fate will be much worse than those who didn't know any better.

You like to pretend that all Christians are hypocrites but I know the truth. The ones that scare you are the mature Christians that love God, love people, and do the best they can to live holy lives. Yes, those are the ones that scare you.

You can laugh all you want at the ones that don't measure up but that won't save you when you reach the Judgment Seat of Christ. God is loving but God is just. There's no other fate than hell for those who reject Jesus as their Lord and Savior.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. :)

Is hell a real (physical) place ??

LOL...funny pic

Regardless of whether your comment was a joke or not, I'd like to say that I do not believe hell is a physical place. Hell is supposedly a place where God is not present, but the Christian God is omnipresent therefore meaning that hell is nowhere, and thus hell must be oblivion.

@elfleda Is that what the Bible says?

Well, sounds like you had a pretty tough religious life. I in part used to share your feelings, grew up in a similar situation, hated church. But that changed when I found Jesus. So decided to flee from religion and get close to Him, nobody understands a person like He does, and hey, guess what, He is the only person with whom I can be totally sincere, He would know what happens to me even if I don´t tell him, what a great relief, somebody that knows all my inner secrets and still loves me. And he loves you too, and he loves all the world. John 3:16 Flee from religion and get close to Jesus, there is no better way! :)

Great! Thanks!

I'm sorry but I don't understand what this post is about. You said that these are seven crazy lies that Christians tell themselves and claim to have read the bible back to back but why is it that you don't seem to be able to comprehend the very simple fact that the kind of hypocrisy you're talking about has nothing to do with Christianity?
A Christian is someone who tries to live a Christlike life. Perhaps if you'd sent more time considering that fact instead of judging other people as evidenced by this post, you would have understood that.
Christianity isn't like the other Abrahamic religions, one can not be born into it like one be born Jewish or Muslim and therefore only someone who is honestly trying to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ instead of using church as a social club or cultural venue is a christian.
In short, there's a big difference between a church goer and a Christian and it would be great if you could learn the difference before you insult one whilst confusing it with the other.
