Can knowledge industries escape superstar cities?

My tentative conclusion is that knowledge industries had BETTER "escape superstar cities," because it's to their and their employees' and potential employees' detriment if they don't.

There are untold number of workers with the skills and drive to contribute to industries that are only focused in "superstar cities" where it's too expensive for them to even buy a sandwich, and sometimes too expensive for actual employees in those industries to do so.

IMO, most of the supposed hurdles mentioned in this piece will diminish or even evaporate in the process of allowing more and more workers to work remotely. Non-"superstar" cities will become more "superstar"-like if people who would otherwise abandon them for better jobs decide to stick around instead.

And this isn't something touched on in this piece, but part of the flight to "superstar" cities is minorities from red states and cities to blue ones, not just for better jobs but for a better life, period, without constant harassment or worse.

Allowing such people to stay where they are but work remotely for a big company won't fix that, certainly not overnight, but it would encourage the formation of communities with larger numbers and political clout, with the potential to help turn those cities and states more purple or even blue.
