One of the most amazing things about writing is the way it helps me peel back the layers to discover more about myself and my world. I've discovered through just allowing myself to write whatever I'm drawn to that I have a pretty distinct passion for remote work or location independent income.
I fell into this pretty much on my own and just through my unique situation. Some years ago I worked as a writer and editor for a PR firm. I loved it, but I didn't really see it as a long term thing. I didn't yet realize how this new way of working was going to catch on everywhere. I ended up in a regular job after that, but after getting pregnant and moving, I was sort of forced into entrepreneurship, since most people, shockingly, don't want to hire pregnant people. I knew I was gonna be knee deep in diapers anyway, so I started a cloth diaper service. It finally began to sink in that I love working for myself.

When we moved to Belize, I sold my business, and we planned to start another here (this time in hospitality). Well, you know about the best laid plans of mice and men, right? It didn't really roll out like that, and we actually lost a good bit of money, so we had to scramble. Belize has super strict laws about immigrants working here, and the work permit is pretty pricey, so that wasn't really an option.
At this point I started thinking about online work, which I can legally do since it's technically not in Belize. I put out some feelers to my network, and I began searching and searching. I started freelancing. My husband started transcribing. About this time I discovered worldschoolers and realized that people travel full time and work on the road. I knew I'd found my people. I discovered an abundance of new ideas for remote work. I also got seriously inspired by both the gifts of this life and also how potentially easy it could be.
I started diversifying a bit. I do some sales. Of course I still do some writing. My husband does some graphic design and other basic online stuff. I think multiple streams is crucial. As it started to become easier and more flowful, I realized this could be a dream come true for a lot of people. I realized most people have no idea this is possible. Most people don't know just how accessible this is.
Now I've decided I want to help people find their way. I'm now adding Remote Work Consultant to my multiple streams. Of course it's not for everyone. Some people really just want that steady, simple life. For those ready for adventure and freedom, I feel ridiculously excited to help them find a path.

Your sense of humor is always spot on, hi mama! Being able to work in a different country must have been a crazy challenge. When people move abroad, I can imagine that this isn't one of the first things thought of. I realized that I didn't want to harm myself by adhering to someone else's schedule, so here I am.
On top of this, I am also doing laptop repairs and maintenance because it's a fun hobby and I make money, what a win/win! My roommates ency me sometimes, thinking I have it easy. Being in charge of yourself is accepting a different type of struggle. Sure, I don't wake up super early, but I feel like the normal 9-5ers think I just sit on my ass all day.
Being an entrepreneur requires extreme discipline and willpower, and either route has it's positives and negatives. Be your own boss, but at what price? Have someone else be your boss... nah, I'm okay! c:
Would love to hear more about the inner workings of owning a business, I think it would be useful!

Yeah they're strict here because unemployment is so high, so I totally understand. We just weren't well prepared. That's a good idea to write about owning a business. I'll write about that at some point.
And it's true that no one realizes how challenging it is. How many pieces you're balancing. Sometimes even I wonder what I'm doing.
Thanks for the complement. I love making people laugh.

They are only givimg jobs to the people who go through a lengthy process huh. I can see that, in my own paranoia I realize that there's actually no such thing as "too prepared"! I think that the structural practices and self management coming from owning a business can help many Steemians here.
I also think that no one truly knows what they are doing, some pretend, and others just roll with it. Self included. You're a hilarious woman mama, that's one of my favorite things about your writing!
With love,

It's a process and $1000. One of the best skills I learned from owning a business was preparing and organizing. Writing a business plan is so useful I can't possibly overemphasize it.
I'm definitely rolling with it. From parenting to work. It's basically all guesswork.
Thank you so much for the compliment. I really do love making people laugh.
