Philips cordless shaver has stopped working and is not charging? Do not throw it away yet! 🔧

in repair •  7 years ago  (edited)

After exactly one year of use, my Philips HC5450 shaver has stopped charging. At the beginning after charging, it worked for a while and could be used on the charger, but recently it did not work even with the cable plugged. Pretty good model, cut with no problems even thick hair. I promised myself that if it ever breaks down, I will buy the same model... but... come on - after a year !? It was not cheap.

Because after a full charge (even when it was unused) on the second day it was already unloaded, I guessed that the battery was to blame. I did not even think that repair would cost me only $3!

A brief guide to repair the shaver and save the money

Most models are very similar to disassembly.

  • First of all we have to get to the screws, to do this we have to pry the silver frame with a guitar pick or a credit card.

  • Now we have to unscrew 4 Torx T8 screws (can be unscrewed with an ordinary flat screwdriver of the right size)

  • In the third step, You'll need credid card again or something to separate the bottom. Start from rear (charger connector).

  • The main PCB will appear. We have to lift it up, it is not screwed on, it is pressed.

  • And here's the reason - the leaked Chinese low-grade AAA batteries.

  • I bought Japanese Panasonic AAA rechargeable batteries, with a guarantee of 70% efficiency after 5 years - so repair for years, for only $3.

  • I connected them together with on one side (+ and -) and the other side was pressed against the motherboard's connectors - I wrapped everything with tape, because the battery does not solder and I do not have a welding machine.

  • Ok, You can put together everything :)

⚠ Important: After replacing the battery, the mechanism remembers that they were dead, so You will not be able to start the machine even if the new ones are charged at the factory. You have to insert the charger for a short while, the mechanism will reset and the shaver will work :)

I hope I helped.
