Leaky problem fix. Fridge or Dishwasher ???

So we had a fun week....

There was a leak from the kitchen somewhere that caused a small flood in the basement ...

We measured over to the area where the biggest puddle was and we could see a water stain on the basement ceiling .... OSB sub floor and Floor joist ... we measured over and it was somewhere between the dishwasher and fridge ...

I figured it was just from the dishwasher ... maybe a dish at a bad angle was causing the water to spray at the seal on the door? A slow drip rather than a flood ...

We ran the dishwasher ... no new leaks ... nothing for a few days ....

Then again yesterday ... another leak onto her work desk ... again.

So I watched a bunch of videos on YouTube about Dishwasher leaks ... seems there is a gasket in the drain that can slowly deteriorate... causes a slow drip .... it’s $19 on Amazon but a lot of work to get at.... or $ 500 to get a guy out to look at.

The Dishwasher and Fridge are both over 20 years old. I have done lots of small repairs over the years to keep them running... the Repair guy would say we need to replace them both.

I took some of the dishwasher apart from the inside and found lots of junk in there, broken glass, metal rods etc... cleared that out ,... could not locate the gasket in our model ... put back together, opened the bottom panel, no sign of any leaks on the floor except closer to the fridge... ran the dishwasher ... no leaks.

So ... onto the fridge ... sure enough ... ice on the bottom of the freezer ... most likely the defrost hose down to the evaporator tray was clogged with debris. I emptied the freezer (lots of old bread to make Stuffing), took the freezer apart, melted the ice, blew out the drain and hose with a straw. Lots of gunk. I also vacuumed all the dust out of the back.

No more leaks. And the fridge is running nice and quiet again. Dishwasher too...

Like New !

So for Mother’s Day my wife got a new clean and quiet Fridge and Dishwasher ... and a nice dry work area.
