Some thoughts about Reparations

This American/Western culture has a debt it does not want to acknowledge – it actually has two debts: it’s the two feet upon which the USA was established, made of clay, so to speak. Slavery is in our history and genocide is in our history. Spiritual debts are real debts – the material world is spiritual.

The descendants of enslaved Africans (Afrodescendants) and the descendants of Native Americans are experiencing the effects of slavery and genocide. So are we – the descendants of people who arrived by choice, looking for a better life. If the world is to be ‘righted’ we have to stand up to what harm has been done and say, “I’m ready to make it right.”

If immediately there is fear for yourself that arises, and fear of the ‘other’, or self-defending thoughts, recognize it as your conditioning – your fear – and nothing more. Is reparations something to fear?

There are no negative outcomes from being respectful, listening and doing what feels right to your highest knowing (your truthful heart). It always works out well when we show respect, and who deserves respect more than people who have been so systematically harmed, and have risen so far in bringing themselves back together.

We don’t know what reparations would entail, and really, we don’t need to put our minds to it. Let the people who have been harmed discuss among themselves what it would look like to be restored, and reach agreement on how the governments involved can assist in making that happen.

We’ll survive reparations. In fact, we might start to feel really good about what steps up as a potential outcome... like inner peace maybe, and joy, and a changed world. End the wars and use that huge ‘survival fear budget’ for life restoration. Given the choice, why would we not?
