The End of Car Ownership

Ride sharing and self-driving vehicles will redefine our relationship with cars
......................................................................................................................................................................................

Cars are going to undergo a lot of changes in the coming years.
One of the biggest: You probably won’t own one.

Thanks to ride sharing and the looming introduction of self-driving vehicles, the entire model of car ownership is being upended—and very soon may not look anything like it has for the past century.

Drivers, for instance, may no longer be drivers, relying instead on hailing a driverless car on demand, and if they do decide to buy, they will likely share the vehicle—by renting it out to other people when it isn’t in use.

Auto makers, meanwhile, already are looking for ways to sustain their business as fewer people make a long-term commitment to a car.

And startups will spring up to develop services that this new ownership model demands—perhaps even create whole new industries around self-driving cars and ride sharing.

@everittdmickey I believe we are currently amidst that battle, AI versus human. In the driving sector I believe AI would be a good replacement for the consistent human errors. That being said, the conflict we will see from the transition in the forced relinquishing of our freedom in transportation most likely will be unimaginable from our current perspective.

Elon musk sees a future in which we do long-distance travelling in underground networks of self propelled sleds on a Hydro magnetic drives. Yet also fears the functionality and the implementation of said AI.

So in short even one of the leading companies of the world is led by someone that doubts the success of AI rather supporting the need for human intervention.

Keep’em coming, brother!

I dunno if I've heard anyone say that self driving cars have to be MANDATORY...
drive it when you want to...let it drive itself other wise.
My opinion of AI is that the fears are WAY overblown.

I’m thinking way down the line when self driving cars have proven to be way better than humans and then those corporation start rallying to remove humans from the equation to be able to lower their own Insurance rates.

Sorry sometimes I have a hard time getting all my thoughts down, Damn my out-of-the-box brain.

So way down the line would be 15 years only then hey!? 🤫

The point is that by then many of the present day corporations will be gone..who knows how the new ones will act?

@everittdmickey
Whats ur view?
Would u enjoy the self driving vehicles
As r drive heavy trucks.. Will it b fun in seating in selfdriving vehicles or man driving it

I'm all FOR self driving cars (and trux), very few people know how to drive properly, and they don't.
30K deaths every year in the USA, over a million world wide attest to that fact.
Very damn FEW wrecks are due to mechanical failure...almost ALL are due to driver error.

@everittdmickey
In past Googles self-driving car caused its first crash, when it changed lanes and put itself in the path of oncoming vehicle...
Will it b safe in trusting this type of vehicles?

keep everything in perspective
how many teen age girls have done the same thing...today
will we be safe letting teenagers drive?

@everittdmickey
Driverless car may b available in range of $100000.so not every1 can afford it.. A comp malfunction even just a minor glitch could cause worse clashes.. And secondly if some one hijack system, would it b threat to personal security?

and they may be available for much less OR..they might not even be for sale.
If I had a crystal ball and could tell the future I'd get RICH.

hijacking is already a thing...and we don't even have autodriving cars yet...

Good post

sounds great, if you enjoy riding around in dirty taxis now.

oddly enough...I haven't ridden in a taxi in a lotta years.
I admit I don't clean my truck very often...oh well.

city folks who don't have cars now all think this is a great idea. I don't mind my funkiness but other people's BO bothers me.

imagine small individual 'pods'...small enough to fit inside of hyperloops.
after each occupancy they are steamcleaned , disinfected, perfumed and a pepperment is placed on the seat...

you just described a port-o-potty. I would take the hyperloop places though just because that shit is awesome. Like the Jetsons.

it is very true that many people who are driving no longer think positive he is driving dengen who likes himself

Self-driving cars is a very good invention imo but i think it will create chaos at least for a while when there still are both self-driving cars and normal ones. Thanks for sharing!

good post...thank for information

I don't think people will accept it.

Yeah now a days technology is improving more and more that's why its carries a lot new stuff
Thank you for the post
