The comparisons to the 2016 Republican primary are all so ridiculous. None of the other candidates in the 2016 primary got above the 20s until the end of the primary when it was only Cruz and Kasich left. It was a wide open field and once Trump took the lead he ran away with it.
Trump is polling in the 50s and 60s now. He didn't get those kinds of numbers till the end of the 2016 primary. His closest competitor has a polling average in the teens and has imploded. Every poll keeps on reinforcing how much the GOP is fully enamoured with Trump. 70% of the party still thinks 2020 was an illegitimate election. They don't think he committed crimes. Their main point of interest in another candidate is how much they support Trump.
