Understanding Reputation Scores

Each day I think of ways I could possibly help Steemit newcomers by providing information and suggestions that I wish someone had helped me with from the moment I decided to open an account.

I want us all to be successful and to get the most out of our time here!

Without considerable research, most of us are lost in how to go about using the site most effectively.

There are several posts on the site that will help but you have to actually make a point to look for this information from dozens of accounts.

So to help others, I decided today to read as much as I could possibly find and compile my findings in one post.

This cuts out a lot of work for the rest of you and I gain some personal satisfaction in knowing I have done my part to help the community.

What is Reputation Score? Why is it most relevant in being a successful Steemian?

Each Steemit account starts off with a reputation score of 25, which may seem like a lot but in comparison to other accounts of 70+, it truly isn't.

Your reputation score should be important to you because it determines the likelihood of your comments, posts being read and upvoted.

Upvotes are the only means of raising your reputation score. Reputation score is not connected to your Estimated Account Value or the amount of SP (steem power) your account currently holds.

How you interact with others in the Steemit network can either make or break you!

There are several factors that will determine an increased or decreased reputation score.

-Spamming in the comment section will decrease your score, so be thoughtful in your behavior here!

  • Deliberate plagiarism and outright stealing should be avoided at all costs! Cite your sources and always give credit if you use material from another author.

  • Higher reputation scores can affect accounts with lower scores, not vice versa.

  • As you rise in reputation score, it becomes increasing difficult to increase your score. For example, it may be 10 times harder to go from 25 to 26 as mentioned in this post from a fellow Steemian, ilyastarar.
Reputation Score 101 : What is Steemit Reputation Score, How is It Calculated and Why Should We Bother?

Your reputation score should be something you guard with your life as it determines how much you have added to the community.

My account info clearly states that I love building community so naturally, I am going to want to protect my reputation.

As someone who recognizes the value of alternative networks, I want to increase my reputation score as often as I can.

For me, that means researching more, understanding how things work, improving my skills, helping newcomers whenever an opportunity presents itself and producing quality work.

Thank you nexusvortex for such a good post. As a new member on steemit, it has really helped me to understand how power and upgrading system works.
Just upvoted and followed you to not miss out on the interesting content coming from you side in future.
@suf1an

I thank you for taking the time to read my post. Each and every one of my followers are important to me because if not for you guys I would not have any reason to post on Steemit. Without your upvotes, all of this would basically mean nothing. So it means a lot to me to receive the attention and know that my efforts are useful and valuable to someone besides myself! Thank you for making this all worthwhile!

Thank you so much. It really really means a lot to me. I hope everyone thinks like you.

I hope that more people would strive to help others as well. I can't speak for anyone but myself, however I do the best I can with what little bit I have. I also know that without the help of some people who have been here a lot longer than I have, I would not have gotten as far. We all should pull together to keep the site one noted for quality content and continue to support those whom we genuinely enjoy.

I look forward to reading some of your content in my feed in the near future!

Keep Steeming!

Awwww thank you so much. Your kind words mean a lot.
I will totally agree with you.Without the old and experienced members, it would be very difficult for the new users to survive on steem.
For sure l will be writting good content and I hope we both will have great time here.

Very good idea to have the information in one place. I know I spent the first few weeks stubling around in the dark.

Thanks for taking the time to read my content and comment. I also had to figure things out for myself, so I took up the notion to research as much as I possibly could and share it with others who might find the information valuable. It's been an adventure thus far and I am still learning something new each day.

Ha I was just asking about this the other day! I was wondering why my reputation was taking a long time to go from 39 to 40, but now that I know it gets harder and takes longer to go from one level to the next I understand it - and have been more active on Steemit! lol

Yes, I think that's how it works. The more time we spend exchanging good ideas with others, helping one another out, especially newcomers , the more likely we are to have an increase in our reputation scores.

One habit I have formed recently is doing my best to remember to comment back on all comments I receive and upvote those who make a point of reading my content. I want to help others become successful because I know it will give others the incentive to remain consistent participants on the platform.

I still have a lot to learn, but slow and steady I'm spending more time on here and less on other social networks. And I see the results slowly starting to show in my Steemit wallet! lol

Same here, I acknowledge that I have a long ways to go in order to feel even remotely akin to being an "expert" Steemian. Knowing this is likely one of the reasons why I spend so much time researching the site and topics such as reputation score, upvoting, delegating, curation, etcetera.

Knowledge is power! I am seeing results too and that's a benefit from constructively adding to the community! It takes some time and effort but anything worth having does, in my opinion!

So true! Glad to be part of a growing and positive community again, facebook seems to have jumped the shark in that regard lol

I agree, I find more value here on this platform than I do on any of the mainstream social media networks. As a matter of fact, I can post here and gain positive feedback whereas on those other sites it seems to me more people want to argue and debate, and there's a ton of trolling. Personally, I don't care for trolling others, and think it's a negative interaction that tends to take away from the message being presented.

We must be family here

I think so too, it's best to help one another out instead of being the kind to abuse the platform. I want to help others so I do what I can to provide insightful information. If you have any questions and I am able to help please don't hesitate to ask. I want to make this a community that stands for helping others and actual engagement instead of behaving like some of the accounts who only post their content and never engage with their followers.

Thanks for taking the time to comment on my post.

Thank you same thing by me

You're educating me on this one, I just thought my number was high coz I started a year ago! It's about votes... Hmmmm... thanks!

P.S. - to make more votes$$$, you have distinct advantage, you're a pretty girl. Use this. Post images of yourself, just like people would on faceplonk... these will defo get attention!

My only regret is not starting sooner, but now I'm here and spending more time on this platform than any other website.

I love this site because of the opportunities presented and the community itself!

Also, thanks for the compliment on my appearance! I will definitely keep your suggestion in mind!

I appreciate you taking the time to comment on my post and giving me advice to become even more a team player here on Steemit!

You're beautiful, and I'd bet ya one steem dollar that your most popular posts will being the REAL YOU; nothing complex, just doing daily stuff, smiley and pretty ;) and this cannot be faked, your unique selling point is that you're you, no-one else can do that ;)

I deleted my Facebook and Twitter, and YouTube... a pretty harsh approach, but it forced me to Steemit-ONLY.... and it's worked!

Sooooo many people havent even started yet, and wont "trust" it, so just be happy you know-what-you-know! You're way ahead of the game!

Knowledge is not the same as wisdom.
Wisdom.... is doing it ;)

Thank you so much for the encouraging words!

I feel humbled honestly, and I think I am very fortunate to be a part of this community!

I am pleased with learning about the platform and helping others discover ways to become more of an active player on the site.

I am consistently promoting Steemit to other people who are mainly using Facebook and Twitter, and letting them know that there are other options out there.

Thanks again for the kind words!

All your time spent commenting & promoting (for little/no reward) is time that COULD BE SPENT on creating a Post, that pay$ you. This is my advice; scroll down your own Blog, see what has worked in the past, and Post that again, and again. Do what works. Time is Steem.

Actually, it's recommended to minnows to focus more on commenting in their first months on the platform. I say do both, otherwise how will people get to know you?

Thanks for the info! I’m new and it’s been a bit confusing. This was definitely helpful. :)

You're welcome; I'm glad that you were able to find some usefulness in what I've gathered in my own learning experience regarding the Steemit platform.

Definitely! It seems like you have a really good understanding. I’ve followed you to learn more!

Thanks for the new follow. I truly appreciate each and every person who decides to follow me. You are what makes Steemit the powerful community that it is!
