it's funny how some people think the Earth causes the shadow on the moon.

Nobody thinks the dark side of the moon is caused by Earth's shadow. You're thinking of Lunar Eclipses.

Here you go. Earth is not blocking sunlight, it's just position of the moon relative to the earth that creates that effect of the dark side. When the moon comes more in front of the earth you will have New Moon (exception Solar eclipse) and when it goes back you will have Full Moon (exception Lunar eclipse).

@phyg I've met several people who think the shadow on the Moon is caused by the Earth, so speak for yourself ☺
