PIDIE JAYA. The Lancang Paru village, Bandar Baru sub-district, Pidie Jaya district is one of the villages that has potential and vulnerability to disasters. Aware of the threat, dozens of village communities consisting of village officials, farmers, fishermen and youth representatives conducted participatory capacity and vulnerability analysis (PCVA) in Aroma Village Meunasah (6/11/18).

The village which is directly adjacent to the Malacca Strait was once one of the most severe areas of the tsunami in late 2004. Not only the disaster, this village has also felt the effects of the 2008 tornado, and the earthquake with a magnitude of 6.5 on December 7, 2016 has greatly affected several sectors of life. The vulnerability and threat of the community is increasingly evident when some settlements must feel the tidal flood that always occurs every four years.

Through the Aceh Reselient program, the Foundation for Child Study and Protection (PKPA) with the support of Mercy Relief tries to facilitate the community to be able to analyze risks, vulnerabilities and capacities in the face of disaster threats. Several analyzes were carried out relating to the history of the establishment of Gampong, the types of disasters that have occurred and their impacts, livelihoods, potential natural and human resources, and studying the cycle of community activities, both adults and children.

"The results of the community discussion and analysis will later be compiled into a vulnerability and capacity profile document for Gampong which is a reference in preparing disaster risk reduction work plans at the village level." Said Teuku Satria Mahmud, as the Program Coordinator.

Aswadi Lapang as the program companion in Gampong thanked 39 participants who had been involved. Aswadi also hopes that the community can continue to be actively involved in training and training activities in the Gampong Disaster Preparedness Team (TSBG). (Asw)
