I’ve been thinking about setting up an alt account or two for a while now.
I tried claiming one at SteemWorld.org several times but never had quite enough Resouce Credits. And when it errored, it would tell me how many I needed, but the amount would fluctuate a bit between attempts. Non-techie me assumes that the amount of RC needed to claim a discounted account varies dynamically based on how much is going on with the blockchain at a given point in time. Just a guess though.
As a dolphin, I’d have enough RC to claim accounts if all of my Steem Power was available for doing so. But since almost two-thirds of my SP is delegated out, effectively I’m a large minnow.
Last night, I had just under 4,000 effective SP or a bit over 7.9 trillion Resource Credits. Which was not quite enough to claim a ticket. But overnight I had an expired 100 SP delegation returned and earned a bit more SP. Just over 4,100 effective SP (about 8.2 trillion RC) was enough to claim one this morning. My resource credits will recharge about every five days so I should be able to claim about six discounted accounts per month.
Still not entirely sure how to go about turning the tickets into actual accounts. SteemWorld seems to indicate that I’d have to use my Master Key which seems to go against everything I know about Steem keys security. Oh well, no rush. For now I’ll just acquire tickets. Using them to create new accounts for myself or others can come later.
Great news and congrats! I have not actually created any but if you go to a prior post from @steemchiller he explains how to do it. If not, I have also read that if you have a token, you can go to steeminvite.com to create the account. Again, I have not done so yet but recall those resources!

I once created a second account as a backup when I had a weird fiasco with my keys and had to recover my account. I was running a contest and needed to communicate with the participants during the recovery process. It seemed like a fairly simple process. I had help at the time from a Steem guru. Maybe an alt account is a different thing from what I created, which is a stand alone second account. It’s not affiliated with my primary account in any way.

You can create it on SteemWorld. The interface is kind of confusing.
It requires your active key. the masterkey that is presented on the UI is the one for your new account.
Once created, you log in with the posting key.. (nothing else works) and then are prompted for the active key of the new account when you want to do anything that requires it.
Congratulations! :) I have around 80 and am hoping someone makes an interface so I can give them to an app or someone that needs them.
