Welcome to Miyard, Negril

in restaurant •  5 years ago

Located at 59 One Love Drive in Westmoreland, Jamaica sits Mi Yard. Translated, this literally means "My Yard" or a place you hang out and feel like you're at home. Owned and operated by ReggaeSteem's very own @miyard, you will soon find this place to be like a second home. No one cares how long you stay or what you do there, whether it's playing dominos, drinking beer, smoking ganja, blogging, sleeping, etc. its a welcoming place.

From the porch, you can see the Caribbean sea. There is a small beach right across the street where fishermen park their boats and you can hear the crashing waves while watching time slowly pass by. There are a few friendly dogs in the yard, some chickens and ample parking. If it's late at night, avoid parking under the tree.

You can see Mi Yard and one of the guest cabins or houses next door, there are a few for rent. Considering the location near central Negril, the proximity to the beach and the laid back atmosphere, it seems like a great deal. Prices are very fair at around 300 JMD ($2.50 per beer) which isn't that much higher than purchasing it at the convenience store. The food is simple but delicious and the Egg Sandwich is the chef's recommendation.

The crowd is mostly made up of regulars with some tourists and snowbirds. It's a great place to feel welcomed as no one seems to care what you do. I wore a cat mask which attracted a few glances but nothing out of the ordinary. There was one Rasta with long sun-bleached dreads who seemed to be almost living at the place. We met another gentleman who ran a video channel, some people who just came to watch the tv, and some tourists. Most patrons seemed very friendly and willing to chat.

Our first stop in Jamaica after checking into Coco La Palm was Mi Yard. I had to have the Jerk Chicken just to get the fix before diving into some of the other foods. Jamaican bread is more filling and flavourful than some of the American stuff and is great for soaking up the Jerk Sauce.

If you are in Negril, stop by Mi Yard and ask for Delroy. It's a great way to make friends and get introduced to the community. The ambiance is real!

I also ate chicken for lumch today. I had it with redpepper paste, so it is also spicy like jerk chicken.

Two completely different flavours but delicious in their own way. If you skip the scotch bonnet, gochujang is hotter than jerk sauce.

No, my friend, until now I have not seen banana bread, even though my land is a banana-producing area.
