Coney Dog at A&W

I'm sure almost everyone has heard of the infamous Coney Dog available at A&W outlets and if you're one of the few who hasn't, you need to try this famous dish. A&W has been around for a very long time; in fact, it's been around since 1964. My father has always said that the Coney Dog was his go-to snack when he was a kid. Its ingredients are simple : Hot Dog with chili con carne and onions. After school, I would walk out of the school compound with several friends to have lunch at the A&W branch in Petaling Jaya. We would only order these four types of dish : root beer float, waffle with ice cream, coney dog and curly fries.

Back then, it would cost a mere RM2.00 for a Coney Dog - prices have hiked since then and it's now RM5.95 for the Beef Coney and RM4.55 for the Chicken Coney. For students, it's an extremely affordable meal; granted, it won't be as affordable as a meal at the mamak or at the neighbourhood Kopitiam but if you're looking for a nostalgic restaurant to eat at with your friends and you're on a budget, take a drive to the nearest A&W. In my opinion, McDonald's will always hold the No.1 rank on the fast food cdhain board and KFC coming in close at No.2 but A&W will definitely be the No.3. Wendy's, Carl's Jr. and others can't compare to these three. The Coney Dog brings back childhood memories, especially if you're having lunch or dinner with your family and friends on a weekday.
