In a way both. The writer still gets there share because its their article but if you upvoted the article that you are sharing it gives that article a chance to be seen by your followers and they may upvote it as well and since curators ( those who upvote ) earn a percentage of post payout from articles the more upvotes an article gets after you have upvoted the better chance of you getting curation rewards.
It's important to note that the curation rewards you receive depend on allot of factors like the time you placed your vote and other factors. You may not receive any curation rewards at all if your vote value is too low compared to the others that upvoted. The higher your upvote value on a post / article in relation to the other upvotes also helps determine how much of the curation reward you may receive.
@rentmoney - Ok, so that's what the curators means.
So someone else said it's due to what my SP power is.
That's why when I upvote you, you don't get any money. frown
So what's the point in my upvoting you & how do I get SP without having to pay for it?
Thanks a ton

Your upvote is worth something just not allot. Many little votes from different small accounts can equal some small rewards. Most the votes I get come from smaller accounts like yours and mine.
To earn Steem without purchasing you will have to write good content / have the support of others who will upvote your content so you can earn Steem. Participating in games and topics that award Steem helps also.
