Cauldron, released in 1985 by Palace Software was one of the most iconic titles for the C64 (in Europe at least, it amazes me how different our software was to the US)

The idea of the game was you played a witch who had to get back her magic broom from a bunch of evil pumpkins who dwelled in the caves below her house. Wait... I though witches were evil!? Beats me!

Sounds simple right? Infact this and it's successor Cauldron 2 were amongst the hardest games to complete and I remember always scouring the computer magazines to see if there were any cheats to the game to make it easier. There were a ton of baddies on the screen at any one time and it was almost impossible not to take damage a lot of the time.

Cauldron had good graphics for the time, and some very nice title music but no in-game music just passable sound effects the worst of which was when your witch would fly on the surface level. The effect would start up and then speed up or slow down depending on how fast you went and become one constant drone. It annoyed me as a kid so, 30 years later I feel really sorry for any parents who had to listen to it!

Never did complete this (like 85% of c64 games!) and upon trying this via emulator recently its still as hard as ever.
There cant be many other games where you control a witch?
