Alien Brigade is one of the relatively few games released exclusively on the Atari 7800. Alien Brigade was a rail shooter and was somewhat similar to games like Operation Wolf. It could be played either with a joystick or with a light gun.
In Alien Brigade, the screen would scroll to the left and/or right while various enemies such as aliens and brainwashed soldiers would tried to kill you. Your primary goal was to kill them first though each level had its own specific objective such as saving civilians or destroying specific targets. There are also other things to shoot like tanks and helicopters. Destroying certain things will produce health, more ammo or more powerful weapons for you to use.
Alien Brigade was released pretty late in the Atari 7800's life cycle in 1990. Nevertheless, it was marketed pretty heavily, at least for an Atari 7800 game, with print ads and other promotional material.
If you like these kinds of rail shooters than this one is actually pretty good and compares favorably with games like Operation Wolf. This one is definitely worth picking up if you own an Atari 7800. You will most likely have to be using a CRT based television or monitor for the light gun to work though and the light gun is the preferred controller for this game.
As I mentioned before, Alien Brigade is exclusive to the Atari 7800 and that system remains the only way to play this game other than emulation. I'm not sure how practical it is to get any kind of light gun working with emulation. You may have to resort to using a joystick or other controller if you go this route.

Hello, Steemians. Let us introduce you a new Steem B...
Someone needs to buy this game and make a FPS based on the cover art...plus a mobile game based on the original.

The new Atari VCS ships in December. As far as I know, Atari still owns the rights to this game. It's conceivable that they could do something like this...

There are a few people releasing old games onto mobile platforms and making new versions for mobile, etc, so it's possible...but if they're making a new console, they'll likely make any games for their new console and lock em down there.
I can only hope they do their new console right and don't make it too expensive. What usually makes a console successful is the games...but a lot of people bought these trash mini consoles just based on nostalgia and them being cute. If they combine that with being an actually useful console, maybe that will be a recipe for success.

Well, the new console they are making is definitely a massive step up from the mini-consoles they've been doing. It's a Ryzen based PC with a customized version of Linux as the OS in the form factor of a futuristic looking Atari 2600. Presumably it will primarily be a platform with which to deliver digital content. However, it isn't locked down so you can install Windows, a regular version of Linux or whatever you want in addition to the OS it comes with. It doesn't seem likely it will really compete with the likes of Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo but if they pay some serious attention to first party software then it will be a nice niche system.
The price ranges from $249 to $389 depending on the options you want and it is available for pre-order at WalMart and GameStop. Not cheap by any means but then it is essentially a full-featured PC. Honesty, to me it will be worth it to have a PC in that form factor even if it isn't a success as a video game console. I just hope they are serious about the software. An FPS Alien Brigade would be a nice addition. :)
I pre-ordered one a while back and I may buy another depending on how I like it. My hope is that digital streaming services like Netflix and Amazon Prime will be available for it. If so, I'll use one to replace my aging PS3 as my main device for watching movies and such. And of course playing games.

I don't think $389 is that bad at all for a PC/console. Depends on the capabilities though.
In my day and age we had to spend over $1000 for a computer, uphill, both ways, in the snow! And money was worth more in those days!
I think this might be one of the few consoles I'm excited about in a while. If it's Linux and not horribly locked down, then modders and coders will love it. Of course, being an open computer...it kinda does have to distinguish itself. Hopefully the interface is pretty good and ends up coming with quite a few apps to make it worthy of getting.
If it does get certain apps, it might actually be really good for some Linux users, who can't easily watch Netflix, because they're pricks and keep killing every open source app to watch them whenever they feel like it. Of course, even then, if they make an app for it, it will probably only last a few years before one day it just stops working, just like on every TV and console, cuz they're assholes.
I'll wait until we know more before deciding if I really want one. I don't wanna spend that much on a console that may die fairly quickly...and with the history of XBox and PS and Nintendo, I don't want the basic version.
It might work as a pretty good TV and gaming box though, and if it does, it might be well worth it to get it.
