Dynamite Headdy is a 2D platformer developed by Treasure and released by Sega for the Sega Genesis in 1994. There was also a version for the Game Gear and a Brazil only release for the Sega Master System. This is one of the better games of its type and it certainly had a unique concept along with some unique graphics to go along with it.

In Dynamite Headdy, you control a puppet with a detachable head. The primary means of attack is for you to throw your head for which which you can get power-ups. The plot revolves around defeating an evil puppet king. Like I said...pretty unique concept. I also find some of the graphics to be pretty creepy (but quite good) despite the cartoony nature of the protagonist.

The version you want to get is definitely the Genesis version. Not only are the graphics superior, as you would expect, but the gameplay is better as well. The Genesis version has had several re-releases including as part of a Sega Ages compilation for the PlayStation 2 in 2006, a Wii Virtual Console release in 2007, as part of Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in 2007 and as a downloadable game on Steam in 2012.
