In June 1999, the primary systems being covered by Nintendo Power were the Nintendo 64 and Game Boy Color. The cover story for this month was Pokemon Snap for the Nintendo 64. Other cover mentions include Star Wars: Episode I: Racer, Ken Griffey Jr's Slugfest, and A Bug's Life for the Nintendo 64 plus R-Type DX and Conker's Pocket Tales for the Game Boy Color.
Pokemon Snap was somewhat of a watershed Pokemon game in that it was the first console Pokemon title (except for the original, not released outside Japan, Pokemon Stadium). The game could be described as a shooter on rails except that the kind of shooting your are doing is with a camera. Essentially, the goal is to take pictures of Pokemon. It's not really my cup of tea but those that liked it found the game play to be addictive and it was certainly successful selling more than 1.5 million copies. It was heavily promoted, including in many hotels and you had the ability to take your game to a Blockbuster (remember those?) and have your pictures printed out as stickers. There was even a competition for the best pictures.
Pokemon Snap has since been released on Nintendo's Virtual Console for the Wii in 2007 and for the Wii-U earlier this year. Alas, I don't think you can take your virtual console version of Pokemon Snap and have stickers printed out anymore...
