Capsule Film Review: We're the Millers (2013)

in review •  7 years ago

In 2013 comedy We're the Millers Jason Sudeikis plays David Clark, small-time marijuana dealer from Denver who happens to be in debt to vicious drug boss. In order to pay the debt, he agrees to smuggle large amount of marijuana from Mexico. Since he doesn't want to bring the attention of authorites he recruits some of his dysfunctional neighbours – stripper Rose (played by Jennifer Aniston), homeless teenage girl Casey (played by Emma Roberts) and clueless 18-year old Kenny (played by Will Poulter) – with the task of playing the role of Millers, "perfect" and harmless American family on an innocent vacation. Although We're the Millers, like so many Hollywood comedies, uses the best jokes in trailer, it is nevertheless an entertaining film, mostly due to diverse but talented cast. Another interesting aspect is an implicit social commentary, mainly seen in the way the protagonists from the margins of American society begin as libertine anti-establishment rebels only to subconsciously adopt mainstream values after becoming "normal" family.
