Windows Mixed Reality Headset to support Steam VR Games

in review •  7 years ago  (edited)

In my previous in-depth review of the HP Windows Mixed Reality Headset, I judged the device harshly because there was no support for existing software, nor was there any mention of such support coming from Microsoft. Today that changed, with Microsoft officially announcing future support for Steam VR games on the Window MR devices. The release can be found here -> https://blogs.windows.com/windowsexperience/2017/08/28/windows-mixed-reality-holiday-update/

There's no mention of a specific release date mentioned in the announcement, but there is mention of the changes coming in the 'holiday season', with many other tech outlets claiming that the feature will be part of the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update. The update itself doesn't have an official release date either, with Microsoft only noting that it will be released in the 'Fall'.

The addition of support for existing software would be a major improvement for the devices. While this was always a likelihood, it hadn't yet been officially announced.

Also, still no update on a release date for the Mixed Reality Motion Controllers.
