There is this youtuber named I Hate Everything (IHE), which is a bit of a misnomer on his part. If you've seen his other videos, he certainly does seem to hate everything. But that's what you have to do on the internet. You have to come down on loving or hating something. He built his brand on the idea that everything is terrible.
But there are exceptions. And this is one of them. It's about a movie called "Who Killed Captain Alex." In a nutshell, it's a kung-fu movie made in Uganda for $200.
It doesn't sound that interesting to me, but IHE really sells it. The review is part of IHE's "The Search For The Worst" series. Apparently, I missed the movie's 2010 "kind-of-a-big-deal" status.
Oh, and now I know what a Video Joker is ... I think. I get the impression that a Video Joker is the result of Reaction Videos on YouTube. I don't know if this still works, but if you want to put copyrighted material on YouTube, all you had to do was turn off ads, and provide a commentary. Depending on the jurisdictions involved, this satisfied the fair use policy, sometimes. At the very least, the video could be hosted for a week or two. Maybe longer.
So if your only access to feature films is through YouTube, and someone has to talk over them in order for you to see them, you will get used to it. And eventually, it follows, that original films will do this because that's what you do. It basically becomes the norm and nobody knows why.
Anyway, I highly recommend at least watching IHE's review on the movie. It's hilarious.
This is really great .. funny, but respectful, and more than a low-budget film review it is like a visit to Wakaliwood! You have to love a guy who makes a movie and will totally dump it off his drive to make room to make another .. Do it, release it, dump it and do it again!
This reminds me of those days when myself and friends.. we loved film so much, and experimented with 8 and 16 mil .. drafting storyboards .. excitedly consuming whatever meager media sources we had on the subject in a pre-WWW world.
Supa Kicka!!!
I am going to be ordering a copy just to support the spirit!
