Octopath Traveler Preview: The Unique and Different JRPG!

in review •  6 years ago

A new market is wide open, many developers are trying to plunge into the popularity of Nintendo with their latest hybrid products - Nintendo Switch. Interesting to see how the platform on paper is not much stronger than the Playstation 4 and Xbox One is starting the arrival of games from third developers who come in diverse formats, both from the visual or genre. Not a few also began to focus on meracik an exclusive product, as did Square Enix with Octopath Traveler. Formed by the same team that developed Bravely Default in the past, it turns out to be JRPG game that is unique and different than many titles that we played in the past. What makes it interesting

First impression

Many gamers seem to agree that one of SquareInix's unique unique approaches in Octopath Traveler is its visual presentation. Instead of moving in the realm of 2D or 3D in general, it carries the 2.5D approach. You will meet visual designs, both characters and the world, in the form of pixels ala old JRPG games, but with a variety of 3D game model effects. From the lighting system, the shadow, to the depth of field carried here, create a subtle modern sense. Combining the two poles, modern and modern visualization in this one room, it makes the Octopath Traveler feels different than the JRPG in general.

Different approaches also arise from the Job system which now also does not affect what kind of Skill or weapon that can be used during the fight but also on the exploration process itself. Depending on the job you have and the character you carry, you will be able to access special skills that can be applied to complete side missions, gain extra profits outside the battle, or just hire extra extra power for the party. For example? One of the characters - Therion who is said to have a job as Thief for example, can use a special exploration skill - Steal that allows him to steal the variety of objects and items from the NPC with the percentage system of success.

Entering the game time of almost 20 hours, and just touching Chapter 2 for 3 characters of 8 characters, Octopath Traveler also unfortunately, began to feel grindy. Since you can only carry 4 characters in a party and 4 characters in the Reserve section, Exp Points that are distributed through the battle will only strengthen and raise the level of characters in the party alone. While the characters in the Reserve, no. While on the other hand, the story that moves in the chapter requires you to get the character to reach the recommended level recommendations before you can access them. True, as you can predict, there is a "liability" as well to raise the character's level of Reserve if you want to enjoy all the stories.

We ourselves seem to be far from the process of completing a game that reportedly can touch the 50-hour mark for all of these scenarios. Of course, it takes time to at least get a clearer picture of the gameplay system or the sensation of how grindy Octopath Traveler could end up. While waiting for the process, let us throw a bunch of fresh screenshots from this oven to help you get a little idea what Square Enix actually offers in this one game. JRPG with some surprises here ..
