London based 'CATERCORNER' is a solo project of James Sherwin and described as'math metal'.
The latest single 'the other osmium' was released in February.
I don't think your ready for this jelly!
I like songs and styles that excite me, something that pushes me with force, out of my comfort zone. Math rock/metal really does that to me. It makes me appreciate musicianship and the Avant Garde way of thinking, they seem so alien to me, I'm not wired that way.
To the undescening ear I think it would be all to easy just to dismiss this as 'just metal music'
'The other osmium' is an amalgam of so many styles and sounds that when I try and break it down it makes me think that it shouldn't be working, but it is.
When your greeted by a wall of sound as your opening, its impossible not to have a reaction.
There's brutal guitar work that's aggressive like a rip curl wave that's refuses let up. This is matched with the Uber aggressive vocal.
When trying to pick out styles I got everything from 90's jungle to deathcore.
The glitches that are used are so nerve shredding and jarring, maybe because in the current climate of video and zoom calls they are harbingers of poor connection and causes of stress.
The break down feels like a hands on knees moment while excercising, you know there's more to come before the violence is over.
Quite unique, interesting and worth a listen.
