Introducing the worst movie critic ever:

Me.

I don't know what has happened but these days, I'm not able to enjoy any movie. It just doesn't connect anymore. Did it ever connect before? More importantly, how much guts do I possess that I even dare pose a question while presuming that someone's actually gonna read and answer this?

Lack Of Empathy

I did some thinking (not much) and concluded that to enjoy a movie, you need to have empathy for the characters in it.

Empathy?

Yeah. As in, you should actually give a damn about what anybody in the movie is going through.

Or else what's going to happen is -- the scenes are gonna keep changing, one-by-one the dialogues are gonna be delivered, yet you won't experience any of it truly. There's not going to be any connection. You're not going it experience any feelings -- anger, sadness, joy(ness?) etc.
You may feel anger though, for not being able to connect with the movie.

Isn't that why we watch movies?

The name itself has it:

movies = move-ies = moves

It's supposed to move us.

That was the crappiest derivation, ever.

How To Get This...Empathy?

Hmmmmm.
That's like asking "how to give a damn?"

I think I know a few ways:

1. Imagine that you're going through whatever the character is going through

Not just that.
Try to also think what you would do, what you would say, how you would say it.

2. Connect your past with the movie's story

Maybe you had actually already been through some scenarios which the movie's talking about?

3. Maybe you know someone who's like the character?

This should be fun. You can see how the character progresses and what becomes of them. And then kinda compare it to your friend's life. Sucks to be your friend if the character ends up being a roadkill though.

Why I Started This Series

I realized that anyhow I wasn't able to enjoy the essence of a movie while watching it, so why not just analyze the movie and see if anything becomes of it.

Talking about the movie I watch will ensure that I'll recall scenes from it, in turn helping me remember the movie for a long time to come along with its lessons. As opposed to watching movies like how I used to prepare for my finals - see and forget.

Movie Analysis-ish Time

Some things I learned from the movie:

• Don't depend on someone to complete your idea of success
  The Gatsby guy built all of his empire so he could get that girl. Ultimately, even with all those fancy cars and a mansion, it feels so incomplete - because he didn't get the girl.
  If you want to be assured of being happy upon gaining material wealth, then start building your riches with an aim of personal satisfaction.

• Be nosy and interfere in others' lives and matters
  How else are you gonna write a bomb novel?

• Things can be fantastic a second, and go crazy the next
  Notice how everything seemed optimistic when those 3 were enjoying in the castle? But later on, prolly the next day, when everybody went to town, shit hit the fan. And then that lady.
  Therefore, don't hold onto things. Don't get comfortable with one way of living. Always be ready with your surfboard. To go with the flow.

• Don't let the lady drive
  Well, you know.

Other Review-y Stuff

At first glance, it might seem that a woman destroyed his success, and then his life. (Because pursuing her led him to his death)
But no.

What matters is how you are.

Whether you're managing your life properly. You can't blame that woman because he himself chose to get her.

But then again, how can one even say what is right and wrong? How can we say that his desire to get her was wrong? What if he chose to not pursue her, but then ended up thinking about "what ifs" his whole life, right?
Who knows.

He wanted her. He tried to get her. He died.

Boom. There's your professional review.
