Book Review | The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck by Mark Manson

The best self-help book you will ever read, guaranteed. I know what you are thinking, and if you are anything like me, the words self-help book will make you cringe, because immediately your mind thinks of all those inspirational quotes you see on social media. Which are nice, most of them. But to Mark Manson, positive thinking is what's making us feel bad, to begin with.

"The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck: A Counterintuitive Approach to Living a Good Life" it's a journey of searching for authenticity. Of values and metrics, and of realizing that comparing ourselves to others it what's preventing us from getting where we really want to be.

Manson’s writing style is humorous; you will laugh at the realness of his thoughts, and the accuracy of his words. It will feel personally relevant to anyone feeling lost and stuck, or anyone who needs to get their priorities adjusted. Intimate, but far from sentimental, he shares relatable experiences, showing a vulnerable side of him that, at times, it will feel like you are a close friend of his.

Regardless of what the title might suggest, Mark Manson does not encourage his readers to not give a fuck about anything. Instead, he encourages them to care about the things that truly matter, whatever that might be.

A real life-changer book. In a world that is constantly telling us to avoid negative emotions, "The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck" delivers an authentic wake-up call you didn't know you needed.

“The desire for more positive experience is itself a negative experience. And, paradoxically, the acceptance of one’s negative experience is itself a positive experience. This is a total mind-fuck [...] the more you pursue feeling better all the time, the less satisfied you become, as pursuing something only reinforces the fact that you lack it in the first place.”Mark Manson, The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fck: A Counterintuitive Approach to Living a Good Life
