Lenovo Syncpad T490

Lenovo Syncpad T490

Buy a Lenovo ThinkPad T490 and try it out for a month
Maybe it's the first time that I'm writing it.
In addition to the performance limitations of the Gram (Broadwell model)
Due to a motherboard problem, I sometimes decided to purchase WHEA ~ blue screen.
In fact, I was hesitant about Lenovo's infamous AS issue until I bought it.
Except for the problem of high frequency sound which will be described later
Before writing a review, I was worried about how to compare with previous generations.
This year's T490s are not as good as the RAM onboard and the performance of the wired LAN, which is worse than its predecessor.

The purchase path is Lenovo's official home, which was purchased by the CTO, and the specification was selected for the i5 8265U with the FHD low-power panel RAM 8 Gigabyte (now 16 Gigabit) SSD 512GB MX250 graphics selection and fingerprint / keyboard backlight.
In addition, I chose ADP for 3 years AS and the total purchase price was 1.65 million won.

Appearance only has ThinkPad logo on top, no logo
Last year, some models were engraved with the Lenovo logo on the top, but this time there is no even that, so if you don't know about the laptop, you won't know it's Lenovo.
In addition, the overall appearance is definitely harder than the previous gram, and even if handled a bit harshly, it will be more reliable than the previous gram.
For reference, this notebook can't be opened with one hand.

The bottom plate is really simple: a few stickers, six screws to fix the reset button,
The drain hole that drains water is all
However, disassembling is difficult to disassemble the sink pad and unfasten the screw through the gap, and the gap is almost invisible, so there is more trouble than you think, and there is a high possibility that the wrong notebook may be damaged.

On the left side, there are two type-C ports, one Ethernet gender port, one USB 3.0, one HDMI, and a 3.5-pi microSD slot.
Charging with USB C type and supporting PD charging, there is no difficulty to charge and use even a third party charger
In addition, one of the C type terminals supports Thunderbolt, but the number of lanes is two, rather than four, so the maximum speed is limited to 20 Gbps. Therefore, when connected to a device that uses a lot of bandwidth such as eGPU, performance is reduced.
I think it's a difference between the X1 and the series, but it's still a mainstream lineup.

In case of the right side, Always On USB 3.0 terminal is located, there is vent hole and wired LAN port, Kensington lock hole.
For reference, if you select the smart card reader option, the slot will be installed in the empty space on the right.

As an additional difference, even if the IR sensor is applied this year's product range, the shutter is supported and the shutter does not come out because the IR sensor is selected.
However, since it is not Intel RealSense, there is a disadvantage that if you block it with the shutter, you cannot unlock the window with the IR sensor.

Now let's write down some of the problems or problems / disadvantages
In the case of LCD panels, the FHD 250 nits, which are basically applied in the T series, have been insulted a lot in the color reproduction area, so if you don't like these parts, you should have moved to WQHD for expensive money. I've received a lot of attention with this appearance, and certainly the panel itself is good enough for FHD resolution.
If you look at the reviews, it depends on the panel manufacturer, but the brightness is around 400 nits and over sRGB.
It's easy to use indoors and outdoors, and there was no problem with both brightness and color reproduction even if you actually used it.
One disadvantage is that the response speed is slow. In my case, I couldn't feel much when I was using it. However, when I scrolled with white letters on a black background, the letters appeared more severely than other panels. If you're sensitive, you might want to check out the other panels.

CPU / GPU performance was not a big problem
However, these words only apply when the power option is high-performance and the problem that occurs in normal mode
Like the previous T480s, the PL1 / PL2 value is not high, and the PL1 29W / PL2 12W is changed to a conservative setting.
The built-in graphic model has a PL2 value of 15W, so it's a bit better for the built-in model.
The power value at high performance is quite high as PL1 29W PL2 25W and throttling is not very good.
The GPU is even more conservative. Normal mode starts at very low temperatures of 57 degrees throttling and seriously degrades performance, starting at 75 degrees for high performance.

When we look at the GPU performance, we turn the 3D mark to see 3350 points, showing the performance of the typical MX250.

However, in the case of using CPU + GPU at the same time (games, etc.), it may be hot, but throttling is quite strong, and the performance is reduced in games that take up a lot of GPUs, so it is definitely not suitable for a long time as an laptop. I concluded
Obviously nobody lives to play with this.

SSD has been equipped with Samsung PM981A, the speed is sequential read 3500 sequential write 2700 is showing strongly showing that it is NVME SSD
However, 4K speed is a little slow, but I can't say it's a problem because three pictures are still taken.

In the case of Wi-Fi, the Intel AC9560 top system shows no problem.
Wi-Fi 6 is also available on the public home spec, but it is not possible to select the radio certification problem in Korea, but it is impossible to select it.

I don't know if the touch pad has been leveled up due to Microsoft's Precision Touchpad driver, but I didn't have any problems.

The keyboard is like a syncpad and it gives the best sense of keys in a laptop.
Unlike general notebook, FN key and Ctrl key are reversed, but it is not a problem because it can be changed sufficiently in the setting.

In the case of biometric authentication, the IR sensor was fast, so there was no difficulty in unlocking, and the fingerprint recognition was low when the recognition failed, but it was slightly slow (compared to Galaxy S9).

The weight of the ball is 1.46kg in weight, but once you hear it, it's heavy compared to gram, but it's easy to carry.
In terms of portability, the adapter is a three-prong cable + adapter, so if you want to carry it more easily, it is better to buy a third party PD charger and a type C cable separately.

Lastly, in case of fever, if the temperature is over 80 degrees, the performance limit is taken, but it goes up to 90 degrees instantaneously, and it is absolutely not low, and the bottom plate gets much hotter than I thought. I hear
Fortunately, the fever that came up to the keyboard wasn't so bad that it didn't bother me.

Now, to speak of problems or shortcomings, I first suffered from high-frequency sound for about two weeks. In the case of high-frequency sound, other companies were the same, but Lenovo was normal and did not provide any service.
I googled, but if you turn off the CPU power management in the BIOS, I'm getting better, so I don't hear any high frequency sounds anymore.
Of course, I don't hear it at all, but it's not a problem anymore because I can't hear it close to my laptop.

The speaker was originally a bad syncpad, but this product could not be avoided and the bass was almost absent, but this product sounded a little worse with white noise when playing the sound.
As this problem is pointed out by a lot of people, it seems to be just a product-specific one, and this seems to be something you should know before you buy.

Other issues have not been felt so far, but after upgrading from Windows 10 1809 to 1903, sometimes the graphics card was not using the code 10 error because it was formatted and caught the driver again. See

Lastly, the device I received didn't have any problem except high frequency sound, but I still can't recommend it to others when I see Lenovo's dissatisfied AS
Of course, if you buy a dissatisfied T490s while watching the syncpad, it is highly recommended.

I bought myself an Asus. On the outside, it looks very cool: thin, light, all the details, and lines are aligned. I still get an aesthetic buzz when I look at this machine, just like when I work on it. It is absolutely silent, the quietest machine I have ever seen. Despite its weight, thanks to the special indentation, it can be opened with one hand. The infrared camera recognizes the face in a few moments (even in the dark), opening the desktop. And after Windows 11 came out, at https://digitalmasta.com/how-to-disable-fn-key-on-lenovo-laptop/, I found out if it was compatible with the motherboard or not. Because I really liked the new Windows.
