I have been looking for a backpack that I could use for the office as well as outdoors. I think that I ave finally found it- The Borealis by The North Face!
Priced at $89usd. It is equipped with a protective compartment for my laptop that has ample cushioning. 
There is also a second roomy compartment for other office essentials. This second compartment can also be used for a couple of days worth of clothing or other supplies. 
The arm straps are adjustable and comfortably fit my 6'3" frame.
It is also water and weather resistant and even has a couple of side pockets and a sinch sack that can be used to store water bottles and other essentials.
I highly recommend it!!!
